I am committed and passionate about working with young people of all ages and helping them achieve their goals. In all my different roles I have counselled young people facing a variety of issues such as anxiety, depression, family relationships, self-harm, suicide, bereavement and anger.
I am a huge believer in Early Intervention, giving young people the safe space and the time to deal with any issues before they become a bigger problem and helping them achieve the well being they deserve.
Counselling gives the client a chance to talk about what is bothering them to someone who is not a family member or a friend. Together we 'open up' and explore the issue and this helps the client understand things better. I help them to look at all the options available so that they feel able to make their own decision.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have over 2500 hours of counselling experience, most of those gained while working with Children and Young People.
I am an Accredited and Registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and fully adhere to their Code of Ethics. I have an MA in Counselling Children and Young People from the University of Nottingham and a Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
Since October 2015, I have been employed by Kooth Counselling (part of XenZone) working in Nottingham City (having worked as a volunteer for Kooth since June 2014). I have counselled a large number of young people aged 10 to 25 in schools and other community settings.
Also since October 2015, I have been working for SafeSpeak, the young people's service offered by Relate in Derby. I provide counselling support for children and young people aged 5 to 18.
Since September 2017 I have been on a placement as a qualified counsellor at the Counselling Service of the University of Nottingham.
I have worked for Place2Be for two years, counselling and supporting children in a primary school in Nottingham (4 to 10 years old). For this age group I use Play Therapy as children communicate better when they play.
