About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor, providing both brief and longer-term counselling from practices in Wimbledon and Kingston. If you would like to speak to me to see if you might like us to work together, please call me on 07877 537 593. For further information about my practice, please visit my website www.katewills.co.uk

People access counselling for many reasons. Regardless of what brings a person to seek therapy, it can be difficult to ask for help and daunting to reveal personal aspects which can feel painful or frightening. I am able to provide a space where you can speak and explore comfortably, without fear of judgement. I base my practice upon respect, integrity and authenticity and offer a safe and confidential environment.

Underpinning my counselling philosophy is a belief that you have the ability to grow, and that you are the best person to direct your life. I have no 'set agenda' for clients. Instead I believe in helping you achieve your goals, supporting you as you explore what they might be. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the cornerstone of the counselling process and the catalyst for exploration, understanding and healing. I am trained in a variety of different theoretical and therapeutic disciplines, and I draw on these to meet each of my client's needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training & Qualifications

  • BSc (Hons) Degree in Integrative Counselling approved by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
  • Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
  • Graduate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD)

As a professional member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy), I am bound by their code of ethics and committed to my continuous professional development regularly attending CPD workshops, seminars and courses.

Experience

In addition to my private practice, I work as a Counsellor/ Integrative Therapist within various organisations and charities, gaining experience with clients who are seeking help for an array of difficulties and challenges. Such settings include working as a Therapist and Assessor within a women's centre as well as for a London Borough Counselling service.

Prior to my counselling career I worked as a Human Resource Manager and for many years specialised in employee relations. My experience of supporting both employee and employers has given me a solid appreciation of workplace pressures and difficulties for the individuals concerned.

I have also enjoyed working with young children, elderly people and vulnerable adults in a number of settings. Employed roles include working as a Nursery School teacher and Domiciliary and Palliative Carer. Voluntary positions include working as a Listener on a telephone helpline for people feeling desperate and suicidal.
