About me

About me:

I am a qualified, experienced Integrative Arts Psychotherapist (IAP), and bring a wealth of creative and life experience both in and outside the UK to this role.  As an IAP, I aim to offer a warm, empathic, non-judgemental space where you are supported and encouraged to use basic art materials and non-verbal ways of expressing thoughts and feelings as part of an unfolding conversation about your individual story, including difficulties or dilemmas you wish to explore and make more useful sense of.

What can I expect?

It is not necessary to have any special artistic skill to benefit from this approach.  The aim is to tap into and engage your mental images, felt sensations  and intuitive creativity to discover more alive and rewarding ways of seeing and responding to troublesome mental health issues, emotional challenges and life stressors.

I will encourage you to use drawing, painting, collage and other creative methods to capture overwhelming or 'under the surface' thoughts and feelings - those which may not yet have been ready to put into words. It is my belief and personal experience that, as painful inner feelings, confusions and conflicts are externalised through image and mark making, they may be look at and understood in a fresh light.  These new awarenesses can be transformative and release energy for meaningful and life-enhancing change.

Arts based techniques that I work with include: mind maps, doodling, painting, modelling, dream work, visualisation, creative writing, role play, sensory awareness and more. We will only explore methods that suit you and which we agree would support your aims in seeking therapy.

I am available for short-term, solution-focused therapy (6 to 12 sessions) or open-ended psychotherapy depending on client goals and issues.  Therapy can take place face to face or online following an initial assessment.

Issues I work with:

I have a special interest and experience in working with traumatic anxiety, stress, relationship issues, bereavement and loss.

Further information:

I work in line with UKCP and HCPC professional codes of ethical practice which includes: protecting client confidentiality; actively promoting equality, diversity and inclusion; and serving the best interests of every client.

Sessions last 50 - 60 minutes and take place weekly or fortnightly at a regular time unless otherwise agreed.

What’s the next step?

Please feel welcome to get in touch by email or text message to request more details and/or to arrange an initial chat.

The next step is to arrange an initial assessment where we can explore the possibility of working together.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
