About me

I am a BACP-registered counsellor and coach based in central Cambridge with extensive experience of working in private practice, higher education and family therapeutic settings

I provide face-to-face, open-ended and brief therapy to all adult individuals. Where preferred, I can offer online counselling by Zoom.

I am happy to take organisational referrals for individuals and work frequently with students and staff of the Cambridge colleges, the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University.

I offer a secure and accepting psychotherapeutic space in which you will be listened to with care, consideration and respect. Where I feel it to be useful and appropriate, I may gently challenge you to rethink and reframe your behaviours and habits.

My role as your therapist will be to support you to explore any areas of conflict or psychological or emotional distress you may be experiencing. Together, we will consider any possible sources of your difficulties, reflecting on your early years, psychosexual development, family dynamics, relationships and unconscious processes. By making sense of how your past has informed your current predicament, you can better learn how to create a more authentic and fulfilling future.

My areas of therapeutic experience include:

Therapy Sessions

You will be offered a regular appointment for a 50-minute session, known as a 'therapeutic hour'. Your therapy may be long- or short-term; I will help you decide what is best for you.

I offer sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling (2011) from the Institute of Continuing Education, University of Cambridge. My orientation is chiefly psychodynamic, though I am an experienced pluralistic practitioner.

In addition, I hold a Diploma in Coaching (2017) from the Institute of Continuing Education, University of Cambridge. My training as a coach is psychologically informed.

I have worked for over twenty years in higher education as a university lecturer, tutor, mentor, coach and trainer. I am currently head of a wellbeing service at one of the Cambridge colleges. I have counselled in private practice for eight years, before which I worked at Cambridge Complementary for Therapies and Treatments, Mr Bee's Family Centre (West Norfolk), and at the University of Cambridge Counselling Service (student service).

I undertake regular CPD training. Areas include: working with LGBTQ+ clients / GSRD (Pink Therapy); intercultural therapy (Nafsiyat); emotional eating; self-harm; suicidality; psychopathology; clinical assessment; body issues; and working with neurodivergent clients (autistic spectrum conditions, dyspraxia and ADHD).

I am a Registered Member of the BACP and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling & Psychotherapy.

I am a Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity-affirming practitioner.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
