About me

Why see a counsellor?

It can be hard to express difficult feelings with family and friends, as we may feel we are 'burdening' them or we might fear their judgement or they may be part of the problem!  Counselling allows us to speak to someone who, is not only trained to work with us, but is completely unrelated to our lives. There is no risk or 'burden' - just 50 minutes of time for you.

Why me?

Do you need somewhere you can feel safe to explore thoughts and feelings and reflect on past experiences and relationships? Would you like to gain an insight into where your feelings of anxiety, depression or low self-esteem may arise from? Would you like to feel more positive about yourself and more resilient? I would love to guide you through a journey of self-discovery, to be alongside you, in a professional and non-judgemental way, as you develop a greater understanding of who you are and why you think and feel the way you do. With my extensive experience, theoretical knowledge and training, I can help you to make links, identify blindspots and break free of old habits and patterns and self-limiting beliefs. Whilst exploring thoughts and feelings at greater depth, I can also assist with in-the-moment coping strategies to allow you to feel more resilient and better able to really engage with your therapy.

My counselling approach is Humanistic and relational, which simply means that I believe in the potential of all people and the importance of the relationship between client and counsellor. If you give any of us the right conditions, we can and will flourish. It is my job as counsellor to provide the 'right conditions' and for me, the therapeutic relationship is central to this.  I endeavour to foster a trusting, warm and respectful relationship with all my clients. Not every counsellor is the right fit for every client and this is why I offer a free initial consultation, so you can decide if I am the right therapist for you.

I enjoy working with a wide-range of mental health issues, but my areas of special interest are; Adverse Childhood Experiences, Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-Esteem and Family Issues.

My counselling practice is based in a peaceful, village setting close to Market Harborough, easily accessible from South Leicestershire and North Northamptonshire. I offer a free initial consultation. Off-road parking is available.

I offer appointments at my office in Foxton and also online.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been involved with various mental health organisations over the last 10 years; including Anxiety UK, Samaritans and Leicester Counselling Centre. I have also worked for the National Lottery supporting winners and their families and have assisted Leicester City Council with supporting vulnerable adults in the community.  In addition to the clients that I see in my private practice, I also work in prisons and with young people in school settings.

My qualifications include:

BSc (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy (1st Class), University of Coventry

Certificate in Clinical Supervision (BPS Approved).

BA (Hons) Psychology (2:1), University of Sheffield

Certificate of Higher Education in Counselling, University of Leicester

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
