About me

As a member of the BACP I have worked for 17 years with individuals and couples. My core approach is Psychodynamic, I also draw upon a range of other approaches such as Existential, Cognitive and Gestalt, which I can filter into my approach as needed by the client(s) at one particular time.

I have experience of working with ages ranging from 18-84 years male and female, this has given me a good insight into various problems that can occur at different stages of peoples lives. Some of the areas I can help with include:

  • anxiety
  • relationship issues
  • depression
  • bereavement
  • and some personality disorders.

Understanding how difficult it can be to come to counselling, I have the greatest respect for my clients with their very varied and unique experiences of life, in their past and/or present. My clients have found my approach easy to engage with and helpful.

I work in a small private practice where I offer a safe and comfortable environment for my clients.

Counselling is on a 'one to one' basis, it can be short term or long term; weekly or fortnightly, as is needed by the client at the time and agreed by the client and myself.

What you can expect from your first session with me

At the beginning of the first session we will discuss confidentiality and code of ethics. We will discuss together possible future sessions which can be on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on what is manageable for you. This is also the time we will agree fees of therapy sessions; however please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss any of these issues beforehand.

Training, qualifications & experience

Date: 22.11.00 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, AQA, CSCT [Psychodynamic]

Prior to this Diploma I successfully completed 3 further years of studies in counselling:

Date: 1996/97 - Counselling Skills
          1997/98 - Counselling Theory
1998/99 - Advanced Counselling Skills and Theory

It was also a course requirement to have the experience of personal counselling [min.40 sessions], as well as supervised sessions of counselling practice.

These course requirements were completed during my time of training and I found all of these tasks enjoyable, helpful and enlightening.

Ongoing Professional Development is required on a yearly basis.
