Profile

Are you struggling in your relationship?  Going through relationship breakdown?  Wanting to improve your communication?  Uncertain of what to do?  Relationship counselling can help you on your own or as a couple.

There are some major life changing events that relationships may go through; marriage, babies, death of a relative, children growing up and leaving home, change of job, career or redundancy, affairs and so much more.  These are all additional pressures on you and, without a little help, can be damaging to your relationship.

There are other areas of relationships that come up in counselling; perhaps you are finding it difficult to settle in a mutually satisfying relationship and want to find out why or look at what goes wrong and make changes for the better.

Relationship counselling gives you a neutral space to talk and if you attend as a couple, it will give you both the opportunity to clear up disputes or talk about your concerns.

Relationship counselling is for individuals as well as couples and can move you on to a healthier understanding of your relationships.
The counselling will be guided by you and can be long term (months or years) or short term (6 - 12 weeks).  Whatever we decide it is always possible to discuss alternatives as we go along.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I am a Relate trained counsellor and worked for Relate for 8 years.  I have in addition to the Relate training, studied psycho-dynamic couple counselling at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships as well as family systemic therapy at the Institute for Family Therapy and counselling Young People at Relate.

My experience covers working with families and couples in SureStart Centres, individuals in GP surgeries, young people at Connexion, individuals and couples at Relate centres and clients in my private practice.

Since 2005 I have delivered self-development training and workshops including; counselling skills courses, Separating Parents Information Programme on behalf of CAFCASS and ordered by the family courts, training for West Mercia Constabulary, workshops on family life for preordained vicars and much more.

Recently I have set up workshops in Northampton for parents who have or are going through relationship break down to help them through the emotional journey, discover ways of better coping with their children's experience of the process and explore different ways of dealing with conflicts.

Further Information

On my web-site I have written an article on how to find a counsellor.  I frequently see my clients for an initial free 1/2 hour, for them to be able to decide if we can work together and for me to hear if I have the training and experience that can help them.
If I am not the right person for my clients, I usually refer them to a more suitable therapist/counsellor.
