About me

Are you experiencing:

  • STRESS
  • ANXIETY / PANIC ATTACKS
  • WORRY / "WHAT IF..." moments?
  • DEPRESSION / LOW MOODS

These emotional difficulties can :

  • stop you living your life to the full
  • stop you enjoying your career & relationships
  • and at their worst cause you to have thoughts of self-harm & suicide

STRESS, ANXIETY, WORRY & DEPRESSION ...are higly treatable with cognitive behavioural techniques (CBT) in a relatively short period of time (from 4-12 weeks). The solution starts with evaluating your current lifestyle. I will then help you reduce negative automatic thinking (NATs), introduce more rational thinking habits, and understand the negative thought cycles that drive your destructive behaviour.

Investigating new strategies & solutions can re-ignite your vitality, and make you feel more optimistic about life.

WE BECOME WHAT WE 'THINK ...so I help you understand how you mis-interpret bodily sensations, and generate negative thoughts by deleting & distorting information, or make generalisations about events.

LEARNING ABOUT THE MIND & BODY ...the ideas no one taught you at school will create lightbulb moments. Plus a lot of clues are gained from looking at your core beliefs & your early family history. Core beliefs are formed as you travel through life, and have a massive impact on the way you currrently interact with other people.

Having experienced depression in my mid 20s I know the dark thoughts and places it can take you ...and I survived to fight another day.  So when I trained to be a Counsellor /CBT Therapist I specialised in treating this debilitating and potentially life threatening illness.

HOW DO I WORK? and WHO DO I WORK WITH?

I've worked professionally for 12years. During  weekly hourly sessions I blend elements of :

  • Cognitive Behavioural therapy CBT (solution focused, short-term)
  • Person-Centred counselling (short to long term)
  • Life Coaching (solution focused, short-term)

I work in a relaxed, solution-focused & creative way with INDIVIDUALs of all age-groups (10yrs upwards) experiencing emotional & physical difficulties with - Anxiety, Stress & Depression.
Plus I spent 7yrs as the counsellor for college students aged 16+yrs upwards.

Through working in private practice I have widened my knowledge and specialise in working with MEN & their STRESS issues. Men have a different way of handling stress and depression which is not widely recognised. Anger, irritability and becoming a workaholic are important signs to look out for.

I work :
Face-to-Face
via the telephone
& via SKYPE

  • I use email /text support between sessions when needed
  • PLUS provide written sessional feedback and information sheets on specific mental health topics.
  • I set home-tasks to help you test out new ideas & behaviours
  • I send motivating email/ text messages as and when needed
  • I use Mood & Thought Diaries / recognised Questionnaires to monitor anxiety & depression
  • Psychological-Education is important : so I supplement this with information on useful websites & instructions on relaxation techniques & breathing techniques.

After Therapy Support : I provide clients with two 30min follow-up phone calls (free of charge) post-therapy to check your progress and to help you to stay on track.

CBT is a lively &  interactive therapy, that motivates you to take an active interest in monitoring weekly improvements in your emotional & psychological problems. For those who enjoy the feeling of "DOING" something between sessions, tasks are set to help you gain greater self-awareness and to gather evidence to support or disprove your thoughts & core beliefs.

BEHAVIOUR YOU CAN MONITOR:

Human-beings are quite smart, so we find lots of temporary solutions to relieve our anxiety and keep things under control e.g.

  • numbing feelings with alcohol or recreational drugs
  • taking days off work / sleeping more (avoidance & escape)
  • avoiding social situations or friends (isolating yourself)
  • smoking more cigarettes / cannabis etc
  • crying more than normal / self harming etc
  • Over-eating / comfort eating  ...etc

IMPROVE YOUR LIFE SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE about YOURSELF

1) Learn to 'LIKE' / Love yourself,  so MANY people don't know how to do that.

2) Learn how to repair your damaged SELF-ESTEEM & SELF-CONFIDENCE, this helps you improve & build positive relationships with others.
