About me

Do you need a safe and confidential place to go where you can begin to unravel your thoughts? I can offer a private and confidential place, to listen and to hear what you need to say. Together we can reflect on how we can enable you to live with a greater sense of ease and possess more certainty than perhaps ever before.

Being in a relationship with a counsellor who enables you to separate out thoughts and feelings around relationships, the world you live in and its complexities can often be the first step to a more confident and peaceful existence.

For the person who feels support is unavailable for what ever reason, life can sometimes be very difficult and often overwhelming. For those who give themselves the time to look at their difficulties, with a counsellor who has the ability to offer a non judgmental reflection of what is happening can for some be life changing. Being in a safe relationship with a counsellor can often move you as an individual towards a better relationship with yourself. This in turn will enable you to make more informed choices about how to live your life.

Given space and time for reflection, a safe and confidential place to share with a counsellor who is trained and has experience of hearing many issues can give a new perspective and a greater sense of ease

Training, qualifications & experience

Training.
I started studying counselling in 2003 and started practicing in 2007. I base my work around the therapeutic relationship. Within this the theoretical approaches used include humanistic, psychodynamic and existential models. I have also studied and use where appropriate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Qualifications.
Certificate in Counselling skills
Graduate Diploma Integrative Counselling
Post Graduate Certificate Advanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Experience.
I have over 15 years counselling experience in the Wakefield area, seeing GP and self referrals both in the community and at a city centre location. I have previously also worked for two years at Northorpe Hall and Family Trust as a counsellor working with young people between the ages of twelve and eighteen.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
