About me

If you are looking for a therapist who is warm, understanding, solution-focused, practical and non-judgmental, I may be the one for you.

About me:  Having worked for more than twenty-five years in various Business roles and having lived in various countries over the last thirty - before retraining as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist - I feel I can a considerable wealth of professional and life's experience to our sessions.

I always knew I wanted to work as a Counsellor, as I want to help people flourish and live their best lives.

Professional Membership:  I am a registered professional member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and therefore fully comply with their ethical codes.

Working relationship:  So, what am I like to work with? You will feel instantly at ease when you meet me as I am very personable and non-judgmental. I don’t believe in being overly formal (I am warm) and have a good sense of humour. You will feel “safe”, listened to, and respected.

Are the sessions structured / non-structured? This very much depends on you, your presenting issues, and your preferences. If you like homework, homework will be given. If you prefer that the sessions be fluid, I will follow your lead. You will frequently be asked if the sessions are going at the right pace, and what works for you.

If helpful we may dip into your past, if sometimes, unhelpful patterns of behaviour originate from then. ‘Sometimes we have to soak ourselves in the tears and fears of the past to water our future gardens’ - Suzy Kassem.

Key Knowledge / Methodologies employed:

I will draw from Positive Psychology / Coaching, NLP, Person-Centred and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy knowledge mostly.

Positive Psychology:  By challenging traditional psychology, which has focused largely on the negative, positive psychology aims to cultivate flourishing by moving people toward the positive. Positive psychology is the study of happiness, flourishing, and what makes life worth living.

Coaching: Aims to motivate, inspire and empower people to live their highest vision.

Neuro-Linguistic-Programming: NLP Works on the principle of duplicating what successful people do and learning, their techniques and strategies for success.

Person-Centred therapy:  the approach ultimately sees human beings as having an innate tendency to develop towards their full potential, however this can become blocked or distorted by life experiences that affect our sense of value.  By positively valuing the client as a person in all aspects of their humanity while remaining open and genuine, the client feels increasingly accepted and can reconnect with their own inner values and sense of self-worth. This re-connection with their inner resources enables them to find their own way to move forward.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy:  The idea behind CBT is that our thoughts and behaviours influence each other. By changing the way we think or behave in a situation, we can change the way we feel about life. The therapy examines learnt behaviours, habits and negative thought patterns with the view of adapting and turning them into a positive.
