Profile
I am a qualified BACP registered person centred counsellor. I work with CHILDREN as well as ADULTS and I also have considerable experience counselling CARERS. I offer confidential, non judgemental counselling in a safe friendly environment at Jesmond Therapy Centre. I can also arrange appointments in South Shields and that building has disability access, if required. I offer short or long term therapy and this would be discussed at our initial meeting.
Counselling is an opportunity to be listened to and heard in a confidential, nonjudgmental and safe environment. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship between the counsellor and the client as this helps the client to understand their feelings, thoughts and behaviours better. Working together within this safe environment we can fully explore the issues and concerns that you bring which can lead to new insights and self awareness. I work with a wide range of issues such as coping with caring, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, sexual and physical abuse, loss, bereavement, low mood, relationship issues, depression, low self esteem and confidence issues.
I have worked for over six years as a counsellor in a primary school offering one-to-one counseling and covering a wide range of issues. I use non-directive play therapy with the child to explore various issues which have covered; anxiety, anger, bullying, divorce and separation, low self-esteem, bereavement. In my role as a School Project manager, I assessed the child referrals and also supervised volunteer counsellors.
I also worked for over six years for a charitable organization counselling carers and helping them cope with the wide range of feelings around their caring role from loss, sadness, low self-esteem, anger and guilt etc.
I have experience of offering telephone emotional support to people with mental health problems.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psycotherapy (BACP) and I work within their ethical framework. I have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (Enhanced Disclosure).
I regularly attend ongoing professional development events, training and courses to ensure my skills and knowledge remain up-to-date as well as receiving regular supervision.
