About me

I am a qualified and experienced Person-Centred counsellor with a BA in Humanistic Counselling from The University of Nottingham.  I have 10 years experience of working with clients and have covered a diverse range of subjects with them.  The most commonly addressed areas clients have focused on in our time together are; relationship difficulties, abuse, depression, anxiety,  bereavement, low self esteem and anger.  This is not an exclusive list, so don't worry if you feel you don't fit into these categories, there are many other areas our work together can focus on and you can find a more comprehensive list in the section titled 'areas of counselling'.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and as such subscribe to their ethical framework for good practice.

At Blue Daffodil Counselling I offer a welcoming and confidential service, focused on your needs. The human need for nurturing and my belief that we all have potential within us is my inspiration for the name of 'Blue Daffodil' for my counselling service.  Just as a bulb has all the nutrients within it to grow; and will do so, to a lesser or greater degree, dependent on the conditions it encounters, people also access their inner resources to the extent they are able to.  I believe that you have the resources within you to make the changes you need and although your resources may seem distant to you my belief is that through sensitive exploration together we can uncover them.

The meaning of the flower is also relevant with the meaning of daffodil being 'new beginnings' and the narcissus, which is a type of daffodil, being 'self love'.  Both entirely appropriate sentiments for a counselling service where often the work can lead to a greater acceptance and appreciation of yourself and also can mark the beginning of a new approach to life.

So why 'Blue' Daffodil?  We all know daffodils to be yellow, of course they are!  A blue daffodil is truly unique and signifies your individuality.  It embodies the idea that your feelings and how you have experienced events are unique to you. This symbolism is equally relevant to our work together as I take care to notice you and am focused and dedicated to you as an individual in our work.

Open Ended Counselling

I am able to offer open ended counselling to you, in which you can use as many sessions as you feel you need to fully address your areas of concern.  This way of working may be useful if you feel trusting is a difficulty for you as it provides the time required for the trust between us to develop.  This will happen at your pace until you feel safe enough to explore.

It may also be advantageous to consider the option of open ended counselling if you are intending to explore more complex experiences.

Finally your choice may be purely a personal preference and open ended counselling allows a greater freedom to explore in depth.

Time Limited Counselling

Contrary to popular belief, time limited therapy doesn't equate to short term therapy.  The time limits can be set anywhere between 6 weeks and 9 months dependent on you and your requirements. The time limiting simply means we specify the end date at the beginning of or early in the work.

Setting a time limit can work particularly well if you are; wanting to consider a current practical concern, uncertain about counselling and want to try a sample, motivated to make changes, able to take responsibility and focus.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
