About me

  • Are you struggling to cope with life?
  • Perhaps you are experiencing difficulties in your relationships?
  • Perhaps you feel overwhelmed with conflicting feelings?
  • Maybe you just feel numb?
  • You notice you sometimes get in your own way and feel confused why this keeps happening...
  • Or maybe you can’t put your finger on what’s wrong, but you’ve a feeling that something just doesn’t feel right…

I am an experienced BACP Accredited Psychodynamic Psychotherapist which means that we can work together to explore why you may feel and act as you do. Psychodynamic therapy/counselling is a process which helps people understand and resolve their problems by increasing awareness of their inner world and its influence over relationships both past and present. It aims to help people understand and change deep-seated emotional and relationship problems, reducing symptoms and alleviating distress.

Working with me, I can help support you come to terms with issues in your life and enable you to let go of outdated ways of viewing the world and your place in it. You may find it a relief to share thoughts and feelings which you may not have felt able to talk about before. Psychotherapy can help you think more clearly and make better informed decisions.

I have been in private practice for nine years and alongside that I am in the final year of a further seven year intensive training as a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist for adults aged 18 and over. To support my work I have regular supervision and attend CPD events.

People seek counselling/therapy at different times in their lives for all sorts of reasons. It is a strength to be able to ask for some help when we are struggling. Sharing your concerns with a trusted listener may help you feel less alone.

If you contact me we can arrange an initial meeting which lasts for about 75 minutes. This is an opportunity for us to meet and see if we feel we could work together. It gives you space to talk about your difficulties in confidence and we can consider if counselling or psychotherapy may feel right for you at this time.  There is no obligation to continue with therapy but if we decide my type of therapy might be helpful for you,  I can arrange ongoing weekly sessions.

I work with adult individuals weekly - either once, twice or three sessions per week, depending on your needs and circumstances.

I work from peaceful rooms which provide a safe, confidential space in which we can work together, at your own pace, on whatever you choose to bring.

I look forward to meeting you.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BACP Accredited Psychodynamic Psychotherapist
  • HE Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (BACP Accredited Course).
    University of Surrey (2014).
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills.
    Peter Symonds College, Winchester.

    Peter Symonds College, Winchester.

For the past 9 years I’ve run a private practice from two locations: Southampton and Shawford, Winchester.

Continuing Professional Development:

2017 - to date: I’m in the final year of Training in intensive Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy for adults with the British Psychotherapy Foundation in London. This qualifies me to work intensively with individuals up to three times per week in order to explore and understand the patient's difficulties in order to bring about profound and lasting changes.

2018: Certificate in Infant Observation with the British Psychotherapy Foundation in London:

This course enabled me to observe a mother prior to the birth of her baby, through the early weeks with her newborn until the infant's first birthday. The first year of life is a crucial time for laying down the foundations of the personality and the earliest relationships the baby develops with his/her carer/s will have a profound influence on all subsequent relationships in the individual's life.

2019: Honourary Placement in the NHS at an in-patient psychiatric hospital to develop further understanding of mental illness.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
