Workplace counselling is an employee support intervention that is usually short term in nature and provides an independent, specialist resource for staff working across all sectors and in all functional environments.
The counselling process provides an employee with a confidential and safe place to talk about issues that trouble them, explore solutions and receive help from their counsellor.
As workplace counselling is short term (up to eight sessions), Just Clarity’s practitioners are commonly “integrative”, meaning they have trained in a range of different therapeutic approaches.
This is important because the choice of the approach used by the counsellor usually matters less than the quality of the counsellor-client relationship, with the counsellor meeting the client’s willingness to attend with trust and openness. This helps the client to succeed.
It maybe thought that work based counselling should only be used to address issues directly relating to the employee’s work life, including stress, overwork, bullying and difficult colleagues, however an employee’s performance can also be negatively affected by personal issues.
All of us can experience life-crisis issues at different stages in our live; such as bereavement and loss, relationship and family difficulties, substance misuse and stresses at home can all distract employees from work. Work relationships and productivity can then suffer. In certain safety-sensitive industries this can also be a major risk.
Workplace counselling often helps employees who are absent from work, and there is evidence that counselling support can accelerate the rehabilitation of an absent employee, saving the organisation money in the long run. In short, everyone who works in an organisation is a potential client.
Giving employees access to a confidential, workplace counselling service can potentially be viewed as part of an employer’s duty of care and will enable the employee and employer to keep their business on track.
One of the key things that Just Clarity likes to leave behind is harmonious relationships, which we often find is best achieved through Peer Support Networks, such that your system and staff mutually look after themselves. That's the legacy we aim to leave behind.
Training, qualifications & experience
Workplace counsellors need to have a specialist viewpoint and skillset, as they essentially have two clients: the employee in and the sponsoring organisation. Workplace counsellors are aware of the context of the employees work, the need for sensitive yet effect management and will have a crucial understanding of the environment to which the employee will return.
Workplace counsellors need a crucial mix of both psychological insight and the organisational management process so that the employee can return contentedly to work and continue being effective and efficient. We all want to succeed.
Whilst Just Clarity counsels from a focused Human Givens perspective, our counsellors are trained in a variety of different styles including CBT, person centred, psychodynamic, transactional analysis and hypnotherapy.
All of our counsellors compliment their psychological training with experience of being senior managers in large businesses and or running their own business. They understand the people and business tensions and imperatives, understanding the stresses and strains on bosses too, and bringing that insight into the support of our clients,
This has enabled Just Clarity to provide successful counselling outcomes in large listed companies, small owner businesses', the health and emergency services, to social workers and third sector providers.

Whilst some employees ,at self refer, Just Clarity's workplace counsellors co-operate with allied professionals, often working closely with Human Resources (HR) representatives, trade unions, health and safety practitioners, and those working in the areas of people management and people development.
Typically, our counsellors are engaged under the umbrella of Occupational Health (OH), which enables the employee to get a fast response to help them manage their issues. As well as benefiting the employee, OH staff with access to a counselling resource appreciate the opportunity to refer employees to a specialist service, freeing up more time for them to devote to other areas.
