About me

Is anxiety impacting  on your mental health and sense of well-being? Would you like to move forward in life with better strategies to tackle the worries which can become overwhelming at times, or cause you to have low mood and energy? I have carried out extensive training on psycho therapy and  integrative,  'solution-focused therapies'; these are types of counselling  which get quickly to the root of any problems and set about finding a solution, step by step. It is a collaborative effort which puts your needs at the core of the therapy but also gives you a chance to navigate through the problems without having to pay for long term therapy.

Please look at my list of other issues which can be addressed including: grief, miscarriage, loss of confidence or identity, social anxiety/panic attacks, sexuality, divorce and general negotiation of each stage of life.

Concessionary rates apply where necessary.

Do you currently feel 'stuck', or need an opportunity to talk to someone? I have a teaching background but my current work as an integrative counsellor focuses on helping others to reach their potential and find ways to overcome anxieties and worries in life.

I offer counselling services for children, teenagers and adults, male and female and my experience is outlined below. Please read below to find more details of this.

As a counsellor, I will provide a safe and confidential forum in which to work and will follow the guidance and ethical framework of B.A.C.P. and N.C.S. I will listen carefully to any issues or problems, however big or small, and work with you to develop a collaborative set of goals for the future. I offer reassurance that this work is respectful, empathic and non-judgemental.

Please send an email or 'phone /text- counselling can really help.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked for more than 25 years as a primary school teacher and have extensive knowledge of the kinds of issues and problems which children may face. As well as working with S.E.N. pupils in developing confidence and capabilities, I have experience of recognising and nurturing pupils presenting Autism, Asperger's, A.D.H.D. or A.S.D.

In 2016, I gained a Master's degree in 'Counselling & Therapeutic Communication' at Ulster University, Jordanstown as well as qualifying with a PG Cert. in Professional Studies.

I now work as a Child therapist, integrating a range of play and art therapies for children aged 7-14 as a means of promoting the expression and understanding of emotions and anxieties. My primary focus has been on the development of self-esteem and promoting coping strategies for life.

I also utilise sand play therapies as a means of exploring feelings, experiences and the sun conscious.

I have also experience of 'talking therapies' with teenagers, with particular emphasis on issues such as self-harm, exam stress, bereavement, family -based communication etc

My degree has also facilitated working with adults; I have specialism in bereavement counselling and am a volunteer with Marie Curie. Issues such as compassion fatigue, low self-esteem, work-related stress and family issues are all within my experience. I have completed relevant courses on short term Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, psychodynamic and person-centred therapies, the effects of sexual abuse and  trauma.

In all cases, I like to work integratively so that clients' needs are best facilitated in a safe, confidential and respectful environment.

I am also ASIST trained (suicide intervention)

From May, 2018, my counselling practice will adhere to the G.D.P.R. guidelines as stipulated by B.A.C.P., whereby personal data is securely protected and stored.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
