About me

If you're contacting me about counselling services, please note that I am currently at full capacity with clients. Feel free to sign up to my waiting list at talkhelps.co.uk/contact and I will be in touch as soon as a session becomes available.

As a neurodivergent counsellor and supervisor, I have lived experience of dealing with issues in life that come from being different - no matter what causes that difference. Navigating this world, and all that comes with it, can seem a bit harder with any kind of otherness.

I offer a variety of choices for online sessions, and we can talk about which option suits you best. Working online is an easier, and more comfortable experience for many people, for many reasons.

People often believe that counselling is only good once you have hit a crisis point and no longer know how to handle issues. This is not the case!

Counselling can help you understand why you repeat certain behaviours, help you to communicate with others in a healthier way, teach you how to change your responses to reduce negative impact, help you maintain your relationships, guide you to work out what you want from your life and how you might be able to get it, and so much more.

Having an outside perspective can help you to make sense of things in ways you might not have considered for yourself. Counselling provides a space where you can say out loud many of those things you don’t want to say to others for fear of worrying them, burdening them or because you worry they will judge you.

I am not here to judge, or tell you what to do. I am here to support you in working out what it is you want.

If you have reached a crisis point and you no longer know how to deal with certain situations or people, I offer support in helping you make sense of things, reducing your stress within these situations, and to start making the changes which really can be life changing.

It can be difficult to know where to turn for help, or even to believe that things can get better. You might find that you are so weighed down by situations that you do not know where to start in order to make the changes which will ease things. Counselling can help with this, can help you see where you might make changes, challenge your current thinking and see if you can break the cycle and move forward with your life.

Together we will look at what is going on in your life now, examine patterns of thinking and behaving and see if there are areas where you can begin to do things differently. Sometimes this might involve looking back to past experiences to see how they shape some of your beliefs and behaviours now. This will be done at a pace that suits you, and you will decide what is important for you to talk about. I may offer insights or another perspective and we will explore together what it could mean.

It can be difficult, and sometimes scary, to think about opening up and sharing painful memories and overwhelming feelings with a new person or a stranger. I provide a safe space, where you can talk about what you feel is important, at a pace that suits you. I will not rush you to share before you are ready and know that it takes time to build the trust and confidence needed. We will explore your feelings together and I will stay alongside you while we get to know each other.

What can I help with?

I work with a range of issues including:

Neurodiversity

Anger management
Low self-esteem
Low self confidence
Anxiety
Relationship issues
Communication difficulties
PTSD – using Rewind Technique
General unhappiness
Issues created in childhood
Stress

I offer a space where you can say things you might not feel able to say elsewhere, or to explore areas of your life where you feel things aren't quite right but do not know how to change them. You will have the time to feel comfortable with sharing with me and I will offer support while you do this.

What to do next?

Finding the right counsellor for you is an important decision. I often suggest people meet 2 or 3 first to help you get an idea of who is the right person for you. No counsellor is going to be right for every person.

I offer either the choice of an initial telephone conversation, video call or a face to face meeting of up to 30 minutes at no charge. We can find out a little bit about each other, and you can get an idea of what it would be like to work with me.

You can contact me by email, telephone, text, WattsApp or even my Facebook page in the first instance and we can go from there.

Practical Information

I offer either long-term or shorter, fixed-term counselling and psychotherapy depending on your need or circumstances, and work on a face to face or online basis.

Whilst I cannot offer parking at my premises, there are a number of public car parks very close by.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

As a Senior Accredited Registrant with NCPS (National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society), I work within their guidelines for safe and ethical practice.

At times we may use more creative ways of working in order to support you to share your experiences when words are difficult. We will do this only if it feels right for you.

As a supervisor, I offer a collaborative working space and, to begin with, invite you to have a conversation with me about the shape you would like your supervision to take and what your requirements are. I am happy for you to be qualified or in training, and would encourage you to ensure you have plenty of supervision to cover your individual requirements.

As an ethical and interested counsellor, I am happy to work with counsellors who work with different modalities to my own as I feel this adds a depth and further dimensions to our work together. We will negotiate how you can get the best from our work together and we will negotiate what you need from me and our time together.
