About me

I am an integrative therapist who believes that we all have the ability to feel better if we are prepared to explore our inner world. This can be a difficult task and for this to be possible we need an environment which is calm and comfortable where we can be helped to make sense of our lives through warm encouragement, acceptance and insight into what might have happened which has caused us to feel unhappy, worried, confused or stuck.

As an integrative therapist I use a range of theories including, humanistic, psychodynamic, CBT, gestalt, Jungian and TA. The benefit of having such a diverse range of theories means that I am able to blend these ideas in a way which helps me and my client understand how, when and why their lives have not progressed in the way they would like and also offer a wider view of what is possible and useful in order to move forward.

My aim as a therapist is to help my client achieve their own goals by working through and accepting the events of their life; sometimes we do not even know why we feel the way we do. Gaining a greater understanding of ourselves gives us an opportunity to make new choices.

Due to the nature of counselling being an evolving process I offer open-ended counselling. This does not mean a client will necessarily be working longer term; what it does mean is that it is the client’s choice as to how many sessions they would like.

Training, qualifications & experience

Most of my work has been with adults but I also have experience with teenagers and the elderly. Some of the issues I have experience in cover: alcohol and drug addiction, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, self-harm, sexual identity and orientation, bullying, sexual and physical abuse, neglect, confidence, death anxiety, loss, anger, career, autonomy and independence, low self-esteem, relationship issues.

In addition to my private practice, I am the Clinical Supervisor at The Information Shop in Chichester, which is a charity offering free advice, counselling and other services for young people between 13-25 years old.  I also supervise at Arun Counselling Centre in Littlehampton, which is a service that provides low cost counselling and psychotherapy for the local community.

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Therapy and a Certificate in Clinical Supervision.

Previously I have worked for an agency which offers counselling for young people and as an honorary counsellor within a drink and drug agency.  I also counselled patients in an NHS hospital caring for patients with long term health problems, terminal illness, recovery and rehabilitation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
