About me

Lotus Flower Counselling Services offer integrative counselling to a wide range of clients.  The integrative model understands that not every shoe fits all and includes an assimilation of humanistic and psychodynamic theories.  I am also a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Practitioner. Whilst recognising that the client is an expert on their own feelings I work with the clients’ life experiences to trace the roots of certain behaviours. I aim to explore with my client what is beneficial for their development on a personal level as well as challenge any behaviours that are not useful in interpersonal relationships.

I have trained in multi-cultural and gay/LGBT affirmative models and inner-child work which is a reparative approach (otherwise known as re-parenting).  I have specialised in the areas of addiction and bereavement and have worked with clients on assertiveness and confidence issues while focusing on  self-acceptance.  I incorporate mindfulness into much of the work and use positive affirmation in a realistic way to help client’s prepare for achieving their dreams.

In the end only 3 things matter.  They are: How much you have loved, how gently you have lived and how gracefully you have let go of things that are not meant for you. – The Buddha

My personal viewpoints about counselling revolve around a belief  that it is possible to transform into whatever kind of person you aspire to be and if that is balanced that with acceptance and self-acceptance then we can feel more whole and obtain a real sense of inner contentment.    Rebirth, which the lotus flower symbolises is fully possible when both heart and mind work together. Talking therapies can help a person to process old pains and move on unshackled and with a new freedom to live, leaving past hurts and unhelpful patterns behind

I have specialised in the areas of addiction and bereavement and supporting carers who look after partners and close family with health problems eg. disabilities, mental health. I have also worked with clients on a wide range of other issues including trauma, assertiveness, anxiety, low-self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, bullying and harassment, sexual abuse, long-term illnesses, life transitions and other major life events.

I offer home visits to elderly and disabled clients.  All sessions are for 50 minutes and are paid for in advance.  Discount prices for unwaged, students an low-earners.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
