Emotional struggles can leave us feeling lost and hopeless and it can be difficult to know which way to turn. I am uniquely qualified and one of the most experienced therapists in Kent so I am sure you will find the support you need to find your way back to where you want to be.
My specialisms are in relationship difficulties (including psycho-sexual issues), feelings of guilt and shame and low self-esteem, survivors of abuse, stress, depression, anxiety, loneliness, bereavement and addictions. I have worked with people from all kinds of backgrounds and have experience of working with people with alternative lifestyles and sexual preferences.
People sometimes struggle when they share their lives with others. I provide a range of different therapies and can help you to find a way through these difficult times. I provide couple counselling to help each partner to look at their issues and to overcome the difficulties that they are experiencing. With an eclectic mix of training, it means that I can also work in tandem with another therapist in a complimentary style to ensure that both of you are working separately but together towards the same goals. Sometimes only one partner is willing or able to enter therapy and I am able to work with you to help you to find your way.
I have experience of helping people with sexual difficulties, psycho-sexual issues, sexual dysfunction, loss of libido, infidelity, jealousy, affairs and betrayals and many other problems associated with relationships including general communication problems. I have worked with people who have chosen alternative sexual lives, which can sometimes raise some particularly complex issues. My experience and training has helped to develop a non-judgemental standpoint. Help is available for people who are addicted to porn, risk taking behaviour etc. I also work with the partners of those people. I have a great deal of experience of working with people who are struggling with feelings of shame and guilt.
Relationships with parents and with our children, particularly in the adolescent years, can raise a particular set of emotional challenges, as can oppositional views on how to deal with the challenges of family life. At these times people might need couple counselling or relationship counselling and I can help you to find a way to resolve conflict.
Conflict at work, work related stress and other work-based difficulties can make life seem unbearable and resolving these issues quickly is vital for most people. I can help you to find your way to dealing with these problems and can provide therapeutic support and coaching to help you get back on track.
Survivors of abuse
I have extensive experience of working with people who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse and financial abuse. I have worked with female and male survivors and those who are struggling in an abusive relationship. Although I would be obliged to share information to protect vulnerable people from abuse, I do not disclose this information if YOU are the person at risk as I believe everyone needs a safe place to talk about these difficult issues without fear of disclosure.
Stress is one of the most common causes of emotional difficulties, mental illness, depression and anxiety. One in four (some even believe it is now one-in-three) people experience mental health problems in their lives. Struggling to cope with stress can be the beginning of an emotional decline from which it can be difficult to cope. I can help you to find strategies to help you to manage the stress in your life.
There are many different types of depression and it a very good idea to see your doctor if you feel you may be depressed. Different types of depression need different types of therapy; I can help you to find what suits you best.
Extreme anxiety can be devastating for you and for those around you as it can drastically limit your life. Overcoming anxiety on your own is not easy and I can help you take the steps towards living the kind of life you and your family want to live.
As with many things, the symptoms of loneliness can often be confused with depression; i can help you to look at the cause of your loneliness and find strategies to help you defeat the isolation.
When we lose someone it can feel like our world has shifted to another place from which there is no escape. There is a journey that must be taken after a bereavement and i can help you through the different stages of grief.
Whether you are struggling with addition or compulsive behaviours, i can support you through to recovery. I am very familiar with 12 step programmes and can provide support to people who are participating in 12 step groups and those who prefer to work alone to recover from a wide range of addictions.
Weight management comes with a particular set of issues, after all, everyone has to eat, so learning to understand and overcome your personal issues with food is vital if you are going to succeed in losing weight and keeping it off. I can provide different interventions -including hypnotic alternatives to gastric band – and can help you to find the right tools to lose weight and keep it off, whether this is a first attempt, a last ditch attempt, pre-surgery or even post-surgery. Even a real gastric band isn't a magic cure, so defeating your own compulsions can help you to achieve the body you desire.
