About me

Hi, I am a fully qualified and experienced Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, providing a confidential and professional counselling service for those who need help and support through difficult times.

My Counselling practice aims to give you the opportunity to explore your troubles, distresses or any difficult situations that you are experiencing in a confidential, non-judgemental, safe and supportive environment. I feel it’s a huge privilege to be part of your journey of self discovery, where problems and difficulties can be understood and new ways of coping and dealing with life gained. During this process, a greater awareness of choices becomes available which makes life more manageable.

By working together we can find creative and positive ways forward, looking at your problems from different perspectives in order to find meaning in your life, and/or help you acquire new skills/techniques to assist you in overcoming these issues. Sometimes it may feel like there is no hope or control over our problems but be assured change is possible.

How I work

I am a Relational Integrative Counsellor. This means I believe our relationship and how we work together is of the upmost importance. Together we look at where you are now, where you want to be and what we can do to get you to there. I combine theory and techniques from a variety of major theoretical approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Motivational Interviewing and integrate them into a single approach. This allows me to be not only flexible but creative in my practice, tailoring my work to your specific needs or goals.

Training, qualifications & experience

Training & qualifications

I trained and qualified as an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist at the University of Wales Newport (Level 7), who have an excellent reputation in this field and is a BACP Accredited course.

I also have a Post-Qualifying Advanced Certificate in Relational Couples Counselling and am a professional member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which is an ethical framework for good practice and involves practitioners to have ongoing professional development and supervision.

I am also trained and qualified in Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Experience

I have worked for the last several years in organisations that provide counselling for various problems ranging from anxiety and depression to more specialist fields such as Addiction - drug, alcohol, gambling and eating disorders. I am also experienced in working with the terminally ill and/or those who are in remission..

I have counselled clients from a wide range of ages, ethnicities and cultures presenting with a wide variety of issues. I underpin my work in a person-centred and humanistic way as the relationship is so important for collaborative work in exploring and discovering resolutions to the issues causing the problems. I look at the whole person, the emotional system; cognitive process and its impact on our physical wellbeing.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
