About me

I am offering online therapy through Zoom. if you would like to talk to someone please note that you can have your appointments remotely.

The psychoanalytic or psychodynamic approach is based on the idea that often, unconsciously, we recreate patterns from the past in our current relationships both with other people and towards ourselves. Such thoughts, feelings and behaviour are deep rooted, and can be, at times, unhelpful and destructive.

I work in a way which explores what lies beneath our actions and repetitive patterns of behaviour, how the past affects the present; our relationships, our work and our feelings.

Whatever is on your mind can be brought to the session and talked about. This could be feelings, thoughts, memories or dreams. I will listen and try to help you make sense of how you feel. As our relationship develops, you will discover new insights which can lead to finding different ways of dealing with the problems and feelings that you had been struggling with - often for many years.

In our work together I aim to listen very carefully to you, in order that we may explore and try to understand the less conscious aspects of your thoughts, feelings and behaviour, which may be contributing to the suffering and distress you are experiencing. I believe that gaining insight into the nature of underlying emotional conflicts can bring relief, and also opens up the possibility of changing unhelpful patterns which were previously repeated without awareness.

I offer a secure and confidential professional relationship, through which problems can be identified, confronted and resolved in the privacy of regular, reliable sessions. My work is confidential and respectful of ethnic origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, politics, culture or nationality.

I have experience working as a psychodynamic psychotherapist in adult mental health within two NHS psychotherapy departments in private practice. I work with anxiety, bereavement and loss, childhood trauma, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, work-related issues, personal development, sexuality, abuse, traumatic experiences and lack of direction in life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am accredited with the BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council) and am also registered with and a member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).  I am also a member of the TSP (Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists and Allied Professionals).

I have a Masters in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy taken at the University of Essex/Tavistock Clinic.

I have a Post Graduate qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Tavistock Clinic) and a Post Graduate qualification in Health and Social Services Management from Bournemouth University.

I regularly attend professional relevant workshops and seminars as required by the British Psychonalytical Council (BPC) as part of my continued professional development. I have eight years personal experience of my own psychoanalytical psychotherapy.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
