About me

I am a fully qualified counsellor with a wealth of experience behind me, who can offer you a safe and relaxed space to share your thoughts and feelings. As the seasons change does it remind you that you are still facing the same old problems?  With the same thoughts going round in your head, the same unhappy feelings and emotions, causing problems in your relationships, your enjoyment of life, making you feel unhappy and affecting your health.

I can help you break free from these cycles which are keeping you stuck and making you sad. Although coming to counselling for the first time is difficult, I will help you feel comfortable, and able to tell your story in a safe, non judgmental atmosphere. Gently helping you take your first step towards change and a better life.

I have experience working with anxiety, relationship issues, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, panic disorder, bipolar disorder/ manic depression, seasonal affective disorder (SAD), post natal depression, affairs and betrayal, separation and divorce, addiction, anger management, bereavement, low self esteem, low self confidence, stress, eating disorders, pain management together with many other problems.

The therapy I provide promotes clarity and understanding of your problems, creating the opportunity to change underlying patterns of negative thinking and emotional responses which create anxiety, relationship issues, depression, stress and stop you from living your life to the full. Helping you bring about changes in your life, to break free of old patterns of relationships, behaviors, emotions and feelings which are keeping you stuck. Empowering you to  move forward in your life and relationships, helping you to find your true self and live your life to the full.

I can introduce you to the benefits of mindfulness and mindful living, to become more aware of thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations evoked by events allows us the possibility of freeing ourselves from habitual, automatic ways of reacting, so we can instead, mindfully respond to the present moment in more skillful ways. Bringing your focus to the here and now, means you will feel less anxious, depressed and stressed, and more able to appreciate your life.

I have always worked in the caring profession, have a keen interest in helping people and consider myself to be a 'people person'. I have an open, honest and compassionate approach to my work, providing the time and space to explore you thoughts and feelings, at you own pace, in a safe, non- judgmental environment.  I have a down to earth sensible manner and our first meeting will not commit you to further sessions unless you feel it is right for you.  Together we can work towards your personal goals, enabling you to access your inner resources, promoting empowerment towards the resolution of personal difficulties and problems.

I am a fully qualified and experienced Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor, and a member of the British Association for counsellors and psychotherapists, and abide by their code of ethics. And have a Masters degree in counselling and psychotherapy.

I provide a personal, fully confidential service in a relaxed comfortable atmosphere, with free and easy parking, and am currently working in Wickford, I also provide home visits within the comfort of your home.

I hold an up to date CRB enhanced disclosure, and also public liability insurance.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked as a counsellor, high intensity therapist and psychotherapist for the past seven years in private practice and also working within bereavement services.  I have experience of working with many different problems, and people from different backgrounds.  I have a Masters degree and post graduate diploma in counselling and psychotherapy.

Prior to this I worked as a senior nurse on an inpatient palliative care unit for 16 years, and also in 'the hospice at home service'.  Where I worked with patient's with life limiting disease and their families.  During this time I obtained a BSc (Hons) in palliative care.

My nursing background includes working as a registered nurse (RN) on a cardiac care unit and general wards.  And working as a Nursery nurse (NNEB) in a Special Care Baby Unit, on post natal wards and working with disadvantaged children and their families.

I have experience working with clients using mindfulness based relaxation techniques in the management and reduction of stress, anxiety, anger management, addiction and chronic pain.

I have been successful working with addictions, helping clients through the difficult period of moving away psychologically from behaviors which are self defeating and dangerous, towards a more positive future.

My work takes a mindfulness based approach to dealing with anxiety, stress reduction, panic attacks, anger management, depression, addiction and other problems, the therapy designed to change the underlying patterns of negative thinking and emotional reactions.  Slowing down thoughts and providing the techniques to relaxation, moving away from 'stuck' thinking into a healthier and happier way of life.

The therapy includes simple relaxation techniques which harness both mind and body to bring about emotional ease enhancing feelings of well being, concentration, focus and develop physical and mental resilience.
