About me

Hi, my name is Julie and I am a qualified counsellor.

I am originally trained in Person Centred Therapy, but use an integrative approach to counselling. This simply means that I will draw on my 15 years of training and experience of various approaches, to cater to your needs and ensure that you get the individual, specialised care that most suits you.

I am specifically trained in the treatment of Clinical Anxiety (CCATP), and  Complex Trauma Informed work, which equips me to support clients struggling in these areas.

I offer my counselling services to adults of all ages and young people 14+. I work with many neurodiverse clients. Neurodiversity is an area I am experienced in both personally and professionally and so I can adapt our work to best suit each neurodiverse need.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and I work within their extensive ethical framework.

I am passionate about working alongside people and being able to support them through difficult or distressing periods in their lives. As a counsellor, I count it a privilege that this is exactly what I get to do!

What is 'Counselling' and how can it help?
Counselling is a talking therapy that gives you the space to talk through personal difficulties, thoughts and feelings, in a confidential, non-judgemental environment.
Some of the more common issues that people may bring to counselling include anxiety/worry, relationship issues, bereavement, depression, abuse, unresolved anger and anger management. These are just a few among many issues that clients have brought to me over the years.

Through my time as a counsellor, I have been invited into the world of many clients, each truly amazing and unique in their own way. I have shared with them in their deepest darkest of places, and celebrated with them in their joys and triumphs.
As a person centred counsellor, I believe that recognising the value in each client and offering them an environment free from judgement or opinion, is a truly freeing environment that makes it easier to talk openly and honestly. This freedom so often releases a fresh sense of perspective and a feeling of strength in their own ability to work, and grow through difficult experiences.

Client Reviews

‘Access to Julie’s counselling service has changed my perspective on myself significantly. I feel in control of my life and my future for the first time, and I now feel confidence in myself and my decisions. Julie is incredibly knowledgable, these counselling sessions have been fundamental to understanding myself and moving forward with my life.’

’I was going through a very tough place mentally when I contacted Julie. I was a bit sceptical at first as I have never tried counselling or asked for help before. Julie has helped me to become a better version of myself, helped me gain further support where needed and has definitely assisted in me changing my outlook on life. I would recommend Julie to everyone if you’re going through something major or something smaller in life, she is very easy to talk to, non judgemental, and genuinely cares.’

’I like talking to Julie about my problems. In our sessions we have fun whilst talking about important things that are bothering me’ Aged 10

’Julie has been key in helping my 10 yr old understand anxiety and anger, providing strategies to deal with these issues. As a parent, I am relieved that my child actually wants to talk, open up and share with Julie, and looks forward to the sessions. She finds Julie approachable, the activities through arts, crafts and play enjoyable and Julie has built a great relationship with her, encouraging openness.’

‘Without Julie’s help, I wouldn’t be in the frame of mind I’m in right now. She certainly knows how to bring someone from a very dark place back into a happy place, by this I mean that her understanding of people’s problems is second to none, and she gave me the help and advice to be able to move on with my life, in a very compassionate and understanding way.’

’The prospect of counselling was daunting and uncomfortable for me, but Julie made me feel comfortable, with no judgment. Feeling able to speak freely was very important to me.’

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
