Julie Burchill BSc, mBACP
I offer one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy for adults - providing a confidential and non-judgmental space to explore your concerns. Together we can identify what you would like to gain from the work. From there, we can agree a suitable time-frame (whether time limited or open-ended) and a suitable approach for you (e.g. the level of support and challenge that would suit you). I offer counselling / psychotherapy in English and in French.
I suggest that we meet for an initial assessment session, to discuss your concerns and what you hope to gain from the work. I set aside 90 minutes for this initial meeting, so that there is plenty of time for you to ask any questions you may have, and for both of us to get a feel for whether we can work together effectively. If for any reason, we decide not to proceed, I will usually be able to refer to other services or practitioners, if appropriate.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm an experienced Counsellor / Psychotherapist and a member of the BACP, currently working towards accreditation.
At present, I work for two charitable organisations: at one of these, I practice long-term psychodynamic counselling and with the other, I offer short-term supportive counselling. I also have experience of working within a mental health setting, engaging with patients with acute mental health needs.
Further to my degree in psychology, I'm in my fifth year of study of psychotherapeutic approaches, focusing mostly on existential and psychoanalytic schools. I am dedicated to continuing my learning through ongoing formal training, through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and most importantly, through reflective practice.
CPD training courses I've attended recently include: Working with Psychosis, LGBTQ+ Awareness and Working with Trauma.
