About me

I have a lot of information on my profile and it can all seem a bit overwhelming sometimes, so before you read on, what you really need to know is that I am open, honest, warm and with a calming quality I am told really helps anxious clients to feel a little calmer in my presence.  My fee is £55 but I offer a discount for Block bookings and am always happy to have a chat about what you may feel is affordable for you.  Currently, I have some availability for new clients and although appointments are mostly during the day, I do have one 7pm appointment now available.

Able to offer a blend of modalities tailored to each individual and their needs, having trained both Psychodynamically and Integratively including Attachment based therapy.  Although my niche is long term support dedicated to helping clients with complicated trauma, I am not limited to long term.  My developed style of delivery of counselling and psychotherapy help is not strictly psychodynamic, using a more person centred approach generally.  Empathic understanding, Congruence (genuineness) and Unconditional Positive Regard (Non-Judgmental position) being at the heart of my approach.  Having supported clients over periods ranging from 6 sessions to a number of years and everything in between, I am open to clients who are looking for shorter term solutions as well as longer term.

Offering warmth and experience gained working with issues such as trauma, childhood trauma including abuse, low self-esteem, self-harm, depression, generalised anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, health anxiety, psychosomatic illness and pain, bereavement and loss.  I have felt privileged to have been entrusted to help so many people to regain control over their mental, emotional and physical well being over the last 10 years.

Whether you are looking for help with trust issues, loss, including redundancy, loss of a pet, loss of home, loss of a part of your physicality, loss of material belongings, loss of relationships and of loved ones, to name but a few.  Struggles with lying (your own or others), faithfulness (your own or others), emotional therapy can help with so many different problems you may encounter.

Personal therapy can also help with issues such as feelings related to abandonment, personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder, DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), narcissism, dependent personality, and avoidant personality.  Young people experiencing anxiety and depression, gender identity confusion and/or acceptance and Older people struggling with the concepts of retirement, physical changes and loneliness, there is help available.

Help for stress management, obsessive compulsive disorder and intrusive thoughts, addictions, family issues, bereavement including complicated bereavement which also incorporates losing loved ones due to violence and trauma including complicated trauma, which also addresses trauma suffered within family situations.

Supporting individuals in their goals to find inner peace, strength, self-growth and understanding, acceptance and management of difficult emotional and mental health issues.

Clients have ranged in age from young teens to Septuagenarian and have been diverse in gender, culture, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation, physical and learning ability.  Anyone who experiences the world and their emotions/thoughts differently to others (Neurodiversity).

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Additional information

Opting for a free initial consultation gives us both a chance to meet and ascertain if we might be a good fit for ongoing therapy.  Whether you opt for an online zoom call or would like a telephone call, this initial consultation would be 15 to 20 minutes duration.  I also offer a face to face initial session of 50 minutes duration which does incur a £40 fee.   My usual fee for a counselling session if you decide to go ahead and have regular sessions is £55 but this is by no means set in stone with options to reduce the cost when booking blocks of sessions.  Couples therapy starts at £80 and family sessions rise to £100.  I also have 2 spaces for concessionary rates at any time but there is usually a waiting list for these spaces, please do enquire about availability.

Further information

Trained in both long and short term models of counselling, I can therefore help with a variety of personal issues.  Whether you are looking for help following sexual assault, problems with insomnia, shame & embarrassment (blushing), guilt, grief & loss, couple counselling (relationship/marriage breakup) or family counselling, there is help here for you.  Everyone has the right to access help, regardless of your personal circumstances and whatever it is you are looking for help with.  From coming to terms with your sexuality &/or identity to fear of commitment, issues with control, feelings of helplessness, emotional detachment (dissociation/dissociative) and inner child work, you will find openness and acceptance here.

Having experience of working with people from many diverse backgrounds and offer an honest but sensitive and reliable counselling service which is primarily a talking therapy.

I have a counselling room separate from my home in my garden, accessed through a side gate, along a passageway, and also separate from the garden itself.  Alternatively, if you prefer, I offer online and telephone sessions also.

The assessment is designed to ascertain what form of therapy will best suit your needs and to answer any questions you may have about therapy including costs.

The assessment also gives us both the opportunity to gauge how well suited we are for a therapist/client relationship, since it is central to the work we will be embarking upon together to help you realise your goals.

If you would like to discuss your needs before deciding whether to proceed with the assessment, I will be happy to chat informally regarding your situation and discuss how I may be able to support you.
