About me

Welcome,

My name is Julian Hayes, feel free to take the time to explore the information provided on this website and ask me any related questions you may have. I am an BACP accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist. A EMDR trauma focussed therapist, registered with the EMDR association UK and Ireland. I have a vast range of experience working within the NHS, Private, Voluntary and Charitable sectors of psychological provision.

The work I engage in is based on the premise that we may all experience psychological difficulties at times for a variety of reasons and sometimes require the assistance of health care professionals. The people I work with come from every walk of life imaginable, with every issue you can and cannot imagine. All are treated with respect, dignity and a compassionate mind.

I offer the space, time and clinical expertise to help you make sense of your experience, whist assisting you to move forward and change your thoughts, feelings and behaviours if so required. Feel free to explore the information provided on this site, it’s aim is to support you with a greater understanding of how I may be of assistance.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a BA (Hons) Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy with further Diplomas in CBT, NLP & Comp. I have extensive experience of working with a variety of client groups and organisations. In 2004 I trained at the Royal Collage for the Blind in Hereford as a complementary therapist, working with the blind and partially sighted. In 2005 I began to work in the private sector with special needs adults and young people with drug addiction. In 2006 I was recruited into the NHS mental health services where I provided therapeutic interventions In acute and psychiatric intensive care mental health hospitals and recovery units. This experience has provided me with insight into working with complex mental health issues with a vast range of individuals from various social, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Alongside this work, in 2010 I began working as a counsellor and psychotherapist within the education system and the field of drug and alcohol addictions. In 2012 I incorporated my experience into a new role as a psychotherapist working within a busy palliative care unit within local NHS Hospital. This role included the training of other highly experienced NHS healthcare professionals providing high quality cancer care. In 2014 I expanded my experience, when asked to join a complex psychological team working within forensic prison services, this particular role gave me grate insight into a variety of psychological criminal behaviours and then in 2015 I was asked to join the psychological team at help for heroes. I currently divide my time working life between my work for the charity as a psychological Advisor and my private practice at the Therapy Life Centre, 11 Prittlewell Chase, Southend-on Sea Essex SS0 0RX

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
