About me

Do you feel like you are going round in circles or you feel alone and need to talk to someone independent who you can trust? Counselling enables us to work things out in such a way that we can make any changes that are necessary and move forwards.  We can start to make sense of things again. Being able to express strong feelings with someone who will listen without judgement, can help relieve worry and anxiety over issues such as relationships, bereavement, depression, low confidence and self-esteem, and any other health-related concerns. Counselling can help highlight areas where change may be needed in order to break unhelpful patterns.   Highlighting and processing/ releasing difficult emotions that may be unresolved from the past is helpful. This often provides a sense of relief and a sense of calmness.   In working with issues such as grief and suicidal thoughts we will often explore faith and how this can be helpful in situations like this. This is part of an holistic approach to wellbeing.

I offer a safe, confidential and ethical counselling practice. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their ethical guidelines and code of practice. I undertake regular, monthly counselling supervision to maintain good practice as per BACP requirements.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

What will happen?

Getting started: Pick up the phone, contact us by e-mail or by using the contact form and we will get back to you as soon as we can to make an appointment for you to come in and discuss whether counselling can help - it usually can!

An initial counselling assessment will be carried out to determine the issues we will focus on and explore in more detail what counselling can offer.  This can last for up to an hour.

Counselling sessions arranged following assessment will last 50 minutes.  They will be the same time and day each week or sometimes if preferred can be fortnightly.

Confidentiality will be explained at assessment and it is only in extreme circumstances that a counsellor would ever have to break confidentiality.
Any questions that you have about how counselling works can be asked at any time or if you prefer, you can contact us and we will try to answer any questions you might have.
