Julia McDermott MSc MBACP UKCP Registered
I am a psychotherapist and counsellor offering the support of therapy to both individuals and couples. I provide a confidential and calm space in which to explore and reflect together on issues which are causing unhappiness or impairing the enjoyment of life and preventing mutually fulfilling relationships.
Many people who consider having counselling are affected by events in their past which impact their adult lives in a way that they do not fully understand. Counselling and psychotherapy is beneficial in helping individuals and couples to understand why experiences in their earlier lives influence current feelings and behaviours.
Working with people over the past ten years has shown me that therapy can be life changing as people gain self awareness and use this knowledge to better understand and resolve their interpersonal difficulties

I offer a six to eight session model of therapy to couples and often this is sufficient time to understand the dynamics of their relationship and offer strategies to improve communication and negotiation between different viewpoints. This can be extended if couples feel that they need more time to implement changes alongside the ongoing support of therapy. These couples sessions last for 75 minutes.
