Julia Harvey BA (Hons) Health, Counsellor, Reiki Master Teacher, Artist
Are you struggling on your own? I remember the first time I went to see a counsellor, I felt anxious about talking to a stranger, but after the first 10 minutes I realised I had been waiting too long. Seeing someone who was independent of me really helped me to look at what was going on.
Approaching a counsellor is a strength and a courageous step forward to reach out for support.
Hello, I’m Julia, a Counsellor as well as a Coach and for the past 20+ years I have worked privately, as well as within colleges, universities and therapy settings. If you come to see me, my aim is for you to explore your issues in the safe, confidential and non judgemental environment of the counselling room - it is here where you can explore the issues that are troubling you and how you are feeling. My training and background has been in person centred therapy and over the years I have become integrative, with all my training and skills. I offer creative methods to support your therapy journey; Mindfulness tools, Meditation, EFT (tapping), and creative expression. Nothing is every forced and always at your own pace.
Don't worry if you're not sure about where to begin. The first step is getting in touch.
My areas of expertise:
Loss, Bereavement, Grief, including Pet Bereavement, Self Esteem and Confidence issues; Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Long Term Health Problems, Sexual Intimacy, M.E/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Candida, Unemployment, Redundancy, Forces and Ex Military. PTSD, Adoption and Tracing Birth Parents.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP)
I am a Person Centred Counsellor, Reiki Master Teacher, Artist and Intuitive Guide, with 20 years experience working within therapeutic and educational settings
With early plans to be a primary school teacher, ill-health got in the way and I suffered with M.E (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) for all of my 20s, making a full recovery by the time I was 29.
During my process of healing back to health, I was pulled to explore complementary health and I experienced so many different therapies, western medicine couldn't offer me anything.
I became my own private investigator, tracking down all different ways back to health and created a tool box, my own healing kit.
I embarked on my counselling training and then graduated with a 2.1 honours degree in Health, followed by a 16+ teaching qualification. I began to work as a Lecturer, Counsellor, Coach in further and higher education and in 2002 I was attuned to Reiki becoming a Reiki Master Teacher in 2006. I have worked in college/university environments as well as therapeutic settings and I integrate all my experiences into coaching, counselling, creativity, writing, art and healing.
I already have 2 books published by How to Books Ltd, (now Little Brown Group) one in 2011, called Writing a UCAS Personal Statement in seven easy steps, this is a coaching book, that guides the reader to write a personal statement for a university application in the UK. The second book was published in 2012, called Creating your first ever CV in seven easy steps. This is a beginners guide to creating a CV/Resume, based on creating a skills based CV for the very first time. It too is a coaching book, with activities and exercises.
I am currently writing my 3rd book, which is called 'Rebalance Me: a holistic guide to becoming your own private investigator and finding your way back to feeling balanced, grounded and in alignment.'
