I am a fully qualified Counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (certificate number 082979). This means that I have reached a recognised level of competent practice which complies fully with BACP guidelines and ethics and I am listed on the register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists which is approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health & Social Care.
In addition to being a registered member of the BACP I am also a member of the BACP Private Practice Specialist Division and the BACP Workplace Counselling Specialist Division.
I am based at the Westoe Practice in South Shields, a Centre for Health and Wellbeing established in 1995. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Person Centred Counselling and I have a first class honours degree in Psychology.
My counselling training began in 2005 when I was trained by the Samaritans to work on their telephone helpline. I have also worked as a Counsellor for a variety of different organisations - a national drug and alcohol service, a local charity for families and individuals and a local high school.
I believe that everybody is different and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another so I tailor my approach to suit each person. I provide a supportive and confidential environment to allow the exploration of experiences of loss, conflict, confusion and despair.
I understand that coming to counselling can be a big step so during your first session I answer any questions or concerns you may have about counselling so you can decide if you would like to begin sessions. Counselling can be short or long term depending on the issues you are facing and your personal requirements.

The Westoe Practice is open six days per week and I offer daytime and evening appointments to fit around your schedule. The Westoe Practice is easy to get to as it is located just off Westoe Road which is the main road leaving South Shields town centre. It is a ten minute walk from Chichester and South Shields metro stations and there is free parking directly outside the practice.

As a committed professional, I ensure that my practice is enhanced by attending regular training events and courses. This ensures that my skills and knowledge remain up to date.
I also adhere to the BACP requirement that counsellors must receive regular counselling supervision.

£45 per session for face to face sessions, Skype video sessions or telephone sessions.
Counselling sessions usually last for 50 minutes. The first session lasts for one hour to allow extra time for any questions you have to be answered.
Face to face sessions at the Westoe Practice:
£45 per session. A fifty percent non-refundable deposit of £22.50 is payable to reception at the Westoe Practice at the point of booking each session.
If you need to cancel a face to face appointment please let reception know as soon as possible. Reception require 24 hours notice of cancellations to be able to offer the appointment to somebody else. Reception are unable to refund the deposit of £22.50, but you may transfer the deposit to your next appointment if more than 24 hours notice is given to cancel your appointment. If you would like to transfer the deposit to your next appointment you will need to let reception know when you can attend within 10 days of cancelling your appointment.

I provide employee counselling services for a number of organisations based in the North East. Part of my work with organisations involves working in-house as the Counsellor for an Occupational Health Company. I have worked with many people who were struggling with the stress and pressures of work and helped them to return to the workplace.
Alongside my Counselling work I have also worked in Human Resources for seven years and I have a Masters Degree in Human Resources Management and Development (with Distinction). I understand the issues facing employees and the benefits of counselling for employees and the organisations they work in.
I have a special interest in working with anxiety disorders, such as generalised anxiety disorder, health anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, phobias, social anxiety disorder and any other anxiety related issues.
I have been trained to teach mindfulness skills and learning how to use mindfulness skills has benefitted many clients in my counselling practice. Please see my website for more information.

I provide face to face counselling sessions at the Westoe Practice in South Shields. I also provide counselling via Skype video sessions or telephone sessions for people who are unable to attend face to face sessions or for people who prefer not to attend face to face sessions.
