Judith Franklin MBACP Registered Accredited Counsellor
Therapy In Mind Cheshire

If you're reading this, then I guess you might be feeling stressed, anxious and/or maybe depressed.
Having worked for over ten years in a variety of settings, including a GP’s practice and for two local charities, I have gained considerable experience in helping clients with
- anger management
- family problems
- long-term ill health
- mid-life issues
- personal development
- relationship issues
- workplace stress
Why come to me?
As a person-centred counsellor, I believe it is important to give you the freedom to explore your issues in a way of your choosing. My style of counselling is not directive. In other words, I don't plan the sessions in advance or give advice on how to solve your problems. My aim is to offer a safe, accepting therapeutic space, where you feel able to share your thoughts and feelings.
I can help you to find more positive ways of coping by offering holistic strategies, which will help you to reduce your anxiety and stress in the long term.
If you are struggling with bigger issues, such as relationship problems, bereavement or ill-health, you can feel overwhelmed and maybe don't feel able to confide in friends or family. I will work along side you, providing non-judgmental and unbiased feedback; I want to understand what it's like to be in your shoes, so that you feel heard and understood. Just knowing that you have someone to talk to on a regular basis can help you through difficult times in your life.
Maybe you want to make changes in your life, but feel stuck and scared to move out of your comfort zone. As a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, who has worked with a wide variety of issues, I can help you to rediscover your hidden strengths and resources and in the process restore your confidence and self-esteem.

Training, qualifications & experience
Registered, Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People 2009
Advanced Post Diploma Certificate Person Centred Couples Course 2014
My previous experience includes four years working at the Counselling and Family Centre, Altrincham. In addition to counselling adults and young people, I gained experience in working with couples and completed couples training, alongside regular supervision, while working there. More recently, I have undergone further person-centred couples training.
I was also actively involved in several projects designed to extend our service; one being an outreach service to adults in the community, in which I worked with a number of clients in their own homes. This gave me an insight into the impact of long-term ill health on mental well-being and I have since worked with a number of clients with this issue in my private practice.
Latterly, I worked for Beacon Counselling in Stockport as a volunteer counsellor, working with adults in a GP setting. This post also gave me an opportunity to work with young mums in the community, on stress management workshops. The workshops were designed to give practical help and strategies to young women experiencing family problems. I have continued to work with stress management in my private practice, both with individuals and in workshops in the community.
I have been in private practice for 4 years and take private referrals as well as working for Employee Assistance Programmes. Workplace stress is an issue I work with regularly, with clients who are referred through the EAP system
In addition to my private practice, I have co-facilitated group workshops in Stress Management and Menopause Issues in Altrincham and Didsbury.

Counselling for Mid-Life and Beyond
Through both personal and professional experience, I have become particularly interested in working with issues around mid-life and beyond. Mid-life (40-50) is often a time when we have to cope with multiple issues and maybe:
- Feel weighed down by conflicting responsibilities for children and older relatives
- Experience relationship difficulties
- Go through mid-life crisis
- Have employment issues e.g. redundancy
As we get older, we may have to adjust to
- living with ill-health,
- caring for a loved one
- living alone following bereavement
All of the above can cause stress, which may lead to long-term anxiety and depression if positive coping mechanisms are not in place. I can give you the time and space to off-load your concerns and worries in a safe, accepting environment.
Photos & videos
£50.00 per session for individuals - a session is 60 mins
Book the first three sessions in advance at a reduced cost of £135.00.
£65.00 per session for couples - a session is 75 mins
How Many Sessions will I Need?
This depends on a number of factors:
- whether the issue is recent or longstanding
- how easy or difficult you find it to talk about
- the nature of the problem
During your first appointment, we will talk about the issues you want to focus on. This initial session gives us time to decide how we both feel about working together. Following our discussion, I will normally arrange to see you for a further six sessions, with a review on the sixth session. I will not usually put a limit on the number of sessions, unless you request time-limited counselling.
Location and Access
Please note the rooms in Hale and Bowdon have no disabled access.
However, I can offer counselling in your own home if you live in Trafford or North Cheshire and have issues such as:
- Severe Anxiety/Agoraphobia
- Physical Disability
- Caring Responsibilities which restrict your free time.
