About me
I am aware of the courage needed to make the decision to seek psychotherapy, and how difficult it can be to choose an approach or a therapist. In recognition of this I offer a FREE HALF HOUR CONSULTATION. This is so that we can meet and discuss your difficulties and establish if the way I work might be of help to you. There is no obligation to continue into therapy after this meeting. I provide a particular form of short-term individual psychotherapy to adults called Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). ISTDP has a good research evidence base showing it is effective across a wide range of symptoms and conditions including stress, anxiety, depression, general anxiety disorder, panic disorder, anger, trauma, and obsessional compulsive disorders.
In therapy, I invite the client to take an attentive and compassionate attitude toward themselves, their thoughts and their emotional states. Defences, past conflict, buried emotions, thoughts and impulses are revealed in this process so they can be experienced consciously. The symptoms which are the result of hidden emotions are then reduced or resolved.

Training, qualifications & experience
I am a UKCP registered Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, trained with the London Centre for Psychotherapy (now the British Psychotherapy Foundation).
I subsequently trained in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). I am a founder member of ISTDP-UK.
I have twenty-six years experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS in the Barnet Enfield and Haringey NHS Trust in North London, working with severe and complex mental health difficulties.
I have a private practice in Bishops Stortford.
I have a long-term interest and experience with mindfulness meditation (vipassana) and this also informs my work.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.
The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.
BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Individual sessions: £65 per hour (I usually offer 1.5 hour sessions but hour sessions are also available. I will discuss this with you.)
My fees reflect my specialist training in Intensive Short-term Dynamic Psychotherapy, and my many years of experience. It is also reflects the fact that ISTDP is a shorter-term psychotherapy.
Please note I charge for missed or cancelled sessions unless I am given at least 2 working days notice
