Jonathan Stone MA, UKCP - DiscoverU Counselling & Psychotherapy
I am an experienced qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor, working in Private practice and within the NHS
I offer Individual counselling and Psychotherapy, Couples Counselling and EAP services
You may be considering counselling or psychotherapy for a wide range of issues.
I have significant experience of working with a wide range of clients. Ages range from teens to older adults. I have worked with people experiencing a range of issues -
Relationship issues; anxiety including panic disorders and depression; post natal depression; work problems; stress; loss and bereavement; trauma and abuse; health problems; issues relating to anger (anger management); sexual difficulties; and personal development are some examples.
I am trained and have considerable experience in working with psychiatric diagnosis, including personality disorders such as Borderline Personality disorder, Bi-polar/Manic depression, Avoidant Personality Disorder for example.
As an Integrative Psychotherapist I am able to offer individuals and couples both short and long term psychotherapy and counselling.
Current specific interests -
Trauma, specific and chronic
Somatisation and somatic disorder
I am able to provide personal therapy and couples counselling from a choice of two locations, Derby and Beeston near Nottingham. I can offer depending on availability, daytime, evening and Saturday morning appointments.
I offer a safe and confidential ‘space’ where individuals can feel free to explore their personal experiences without feeling judged.
Employment Assistance Programme (EAP)
I provide counselling for companies and their employees, which is typically work related, but can be for other reasons also. My industry experience can have particular relevance here (see Organisational experience).
National Health Service (NHS)
Currently working within NHS primary care, working with people from a
diverse range of backgrounds with different needs, with a short term time limited focus.
I have previously worked at an NHS Hospital and within a GP practice where I provided both long term and short term Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have previously worked as a therapist within a youth service (local government).
Before training and practising as a psychotherapist, I spent 21 years working in industry, both in the private and public sectors. I held several different posts, from engineering through to management. This included mentoring, leading and supporting staff. This has given me good insight into to working lives and how the dynamics of work can influence and affect individuals both professionally and personally. I have also performed roles influencing organisational change.
What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling is for issues and difficulties that can be attended to with a time limited, focused therapy. Psychotherapy is for issues that require a longer term in-depth therapy.
The aim of counselling and psychotherapy can be different for each individual, some may be experiencing distress and need support. Some may need to make sense of something they are or have been going through, perhaps a significant life event. One may seek greater self-understanding & inner contentment.
If you are considering counselling or psychotherapy, I believe it is important to choose a therapist who feels right for you and one that you can begin to feel comfortable with. With this in mind I offer a reduced cost initial meeting, where we have the opportunity to meet and you can ask any questions you may have. This is also a time for a brief assessment of what our work may entail.
