About me

Experienced BACP member, psychotherapist offering one to one and group therapy in East Sussex,

Dearest You,

You have arrived on the counselling directory because you are looking for someone who can support you to navigate a difficult, or a number of difficult feelings that have arrived in your life. Maybe you have always known why you feel the way you do, or maybe this is all new and you are stumped as to know what an earth has happened.

Today is the day that you are choosing to reach out for support, and that is just amazing, you already know you are worth supporting - that you have a right to feel better inside your skin. So how do we get from where you are now, to where you want to be.

As a human being, I am forever interested in the way we develop as humans - psychologically, emotionally, physically and spiritually and to this end I am lucky enough to be able to attend wonderful workshops where I have picked up many tools which can - if appropriate, aid with your journey into understanding yourself.

We may sit and talk about dilemmas, tell stories about memories, use colour to explore situations and feelings not yet understood - we might use the sand tray and jump into worlds where there are never ending possibilities that perhaps you are unable to see in your day to day life. Grounding all this is a well learned and much adhered to principle, that is that all human beings have the self knowledge and right to claim their full potential.

Our first session together will be almost like an interview, consciously or unconsciously you will be assessing whether or not I am the person who can help you help yourself. And to this end, it is your choice at the end of the first session whether you continue to work with me.

I am very much a therapist who believes that we are both on this journey together, and so our conversations will not see you sat waiting, where appropriate there will be silences, and where you are stuck - we will work a way out together.  You could imagine that we both wander into a maze together where neither of us has been - the only difference is that I carry a torch - and I might be able to illuminate some areas that have other wise felt closed off.

I also am a firm believer in the power of social investment, that being our involvement not only in ourselves but also in others. To support this, it is often that people will move from one to one work with me into group work. I facilitate women's therapy groups as well as well-being creative spaces at my barn in Danehill - and also online. I also have a male colleague who runs men's groups in the same barn.      If I feel that these would benefit our work together I will let you know,  or indeed if you are curious to know more - then just ask.

You may have read enough to get a sense of me, however if you want to know more, please feel free to pop to my website where you can watch some videos and get a real feel for who I am, and if I am the right person to accompany you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am hugely passionate in working with people who identify as having been "unmothered" - this does not exclusively mean that you did not have a mother, but more did not experience the sense of having been mothered. I am currently writing a book about this topic and run two groups which you are more than welcome to discuss with me.

I am equally passionate and have vast experience in working with people who have survived childhood sexual abuse, having been a contributing educator on the ASCA (Adult survivor of childhood abuse) programmes, I am currently in discussion with others about creating a group program to be run in sussex.   I have also produced a series of "tell my story" cards which can be used to navigate the memories which are difficult to say out loud.

Further information

I believe that when everything else is impossible, there is always compassion. What I mean by that, is that in the middle of our own internal arguments, in the middle of our battles with difference, with wanting something that no one else wants, with thinking something that no one else thinks - there is always compassion.

Humans have yet to understand how to truly manage difference, and I am drawn to the path that looks to learn - alongside my clients and my own support networks - how to succeed what feels impossible..... to learn to manage difference compassionately.

Many years ago, during my own self realisations, I reconnected with creativity and began to learn how, in our adult world - the potential to be creative - just for plays sake, is slowly being stripped away.   I therefore facilitate a hugely engaging facebook group where community is the adventure and Creativity is the language - and alongside this run many well being creative groups both in my own barn in sussex and all across the UK
