About me

I'm focused on helping you reach your goals. I can't do the work for you but as a Counsellor, Psychotherapist and Coach, I aim to help you understand yourself more clearly.

Sometimes life just seems to get in the way of progress on the way to where you want to be.

Working with you in a safe, confidential environment towards more awareness, knowledge, acceptance and self-worth often helps clients maximise their own potential.

I offer regular weekly appointments, after an initial discussion by phone, for short or longer term work depending on what you have the space for. My counselling room is in my first floor office, ample parking is available right outside and I'm 10 minutes from the nearest bus stop. During Covid I offered alternative access to therapy online or via Telephone and will continue to do this however I have returned to face-to-face sessions now.

Whether you feel the need to de-clutter your mind, are working through distress or need help with your direction, give me a call. I look forward to working with you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have had some of the best training available in Counselling and Psychotherapy and have been working with Coaching clients for over 2 decades. I studied for my degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Institute in Nottingham. I volunteered for MIND for many years as a counsellor and later a Board Trustee. I also completed 3 years of practice at Nottingham Trent University but for the last 8 years I have been enjoying working with a wider diversity and variety of clients, young and old.

Many clients that I work with need help with Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Depression. If you have been thinking or saying any of the following:

  • I am so stressed...
  • I just wish I could stop feeling so anxious...
  • My relationship isn't working and I don't know what to do...
  • I feel really low and have been feeling like this for too long...
  • Will I ever get over this grief?
  • I just don't know what to do to help myself get better...

It is okay to admit that you need help and cannot just 'pull yourself together'. Working in partnership with someone else is the first step in the right direction, someone who listens, does not judge and helps understand what is going on.

I have a broad range of experience including working with the Carers Federation where I worked to provide counselling to those caring for their loved ones suffering with dementia, physical and mental illness.

I have supported people with their:

  • Anxiety
  • Generalised anxiety disorder
  • Social anxiety disorder
  • Relationship issues
  • Feeling sad
  • Family issues
  • Separation and divorce
  • Affairs and betrayals
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Bipolar disorder / Manic depression
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • and many other issues

Complementing my Counselling and Psychotherapy practice I am a qualified Coach (through the Chartered Management Institute to level 5) and a Coach Supervisor and training consultant. My practice centres on personal development helping individuals grow their awareness about what they want out of life and work, looking for new direction, motivation and enthusiasm.

I have worked with people in developmental roles for most of my life. In the last 20 years I have focused more on personal development, working across different industries and organisations. I am also qualified to use psychometric assessment tools used in business and in the healthcare sector.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
