John Crowley Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist - MProf, MA, MACP, MTSP
An NHS trained child and adolescent psychotherapist working in private practice in Central and South East London offering assessments, therapy and professional supervision & consultations. I hold a special interest in working with young people and families where care proceedings are in the background.
I work with children, adolescents, young adults and their parents. I also work in educational settings, with students and staff both individually and in groups; I offer supervision and consultation to school staff and social workers.
I see children and young people for fixed term periods of work, e.g. a school term or on an ongoing basis, subject to the situation and need. I also work with parents, where seeing the child or young person isn't possible or appropriate. Sometimes a one-off consultation is enough but often ongoing in either short-term (4-8 weeks) or long-term (12-16 weeks) interventions. The work aims at deepening understanding of the child's moods and behaviour and developing new skills and techniques to parent 'therapeutically'.
My consulting rooms are in Sydenham close to National Rail and London Transport rail links

Other areas of counselling I deal with
The reasons for seeking help may be complex or not at all clear, my training means I work with a range of issues and especially with children when causes and difficulties are unknown and only worrying behaviour or emotions can be seen.
My way of working means a first stage assessment where parents discuss the identified difficulties and desired outcomes. The next stage will include the young person after which a recommendation for treatment is made. I may offer to see the young person or refer on if the situation demands it. This process takes a little time to complete but in being careful and thorough the aim is to save time and worry in the longer term.
