About me

Everyone experiences difficulty at one time or another. Whether you are dealing with a major life event, suffering anxiety or sadness, struggling with a relationship, or simply experiencing that something is not working in your life, this is an opportunity for you to step out of your everyday roles and usual ways of thinking and bring non-judgemental awareness to yourself, in order to get to the root of what is troubling you or holding you back in your life.

My first aim is to provide a safe, clear space in which you can be yourself in the knowledge that you will be fully accepted, however you are. It is surprising how this experience alone can awaken our energy, our aliveness, freeing us up from habitual responses which no longer serve us, and allowing new parts of ourselves to emerge.

Exploring yourself under these conditions can illuminate outdated beliefs that you hold about yourself and shed light on other ways in which you may be inhibiting your well-being. It can be very affirming and such a relief to realise that you no longer need to do so.

Through this fresh perspective, it is possible to be awakened to new possibilities. You may notice that your energy returns, your experience may be transformed into something more manageable and workable and you might begin to see new and more fulfilling ways forward in your life.

The way I work draws on many different therapeutic approaches and takes into account the whole person - body, mind and spirit - not just the thinking part of us.

Finding the right therapist for you is important, so please do get in touch if you'd like to get more of a sense of who I am and how I work. I offer a free 20 minute Zoom or telephone call, which gives me the opportunity to listen to what you would like to bring to therapy and for us to explore whether I might be a good match for your particular needs, or not, as the case may be.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (with Focusing), 2008
  • Certificates in Holistic Massage and Zero Balancing, 2000
  • Meditation and Mindfulness training, on-going since 1996
  • Extensive training in the Enneagram of Character Types, 2010-2017
  • Group work
  • Two year training in Relationships and Sexuality, 2017-2019
  • On-going Integrative post-graduate training group since 2017 to present
  • On-going regular experiential retreats to explore human development from a psychological and spiritual perspective since 2013 to present

I work with individuals, couples and groups, and use an Integrative approach when working with people. The way I practice combines my first training in Humanistic Counselling with influences from other therapeutic approaches, including body awareness, the Enneagram of Character Types, meditation and mindfulness, Focusing, Parts Work, psychoanalytic theory, and inner child work, depending on what is most appropriate for you.

I have also consistently worked on my own issues in a diverse range of therapeutic contexts during the last thirty years, and consider this vital in terms of what I can offer you as a therapist.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

For those who are drawn to it, I also practise a hands-on, clothed bodywork technique called Zero Balancing, designed to release pain, stress, deep held tension, and unresolved personal history held in the body. For some, this can complement talking therapy very well. For more information go to my website at www.counselling-norwich.co.uk and click on the Zero Balancing page.
