About me

Hello and welcome... if you are looking at this page, you probably want to change something about your life or your relationship, or maybe both. You may be 'stuck' in a cycle of anxiety or depression and not know how to change it. You may be walking on 'egg shells' or living in a 'war zone' with your partner and not know how to re- connect. What you do know is something needs to change or you need to take a different approach, this is where I can help.

I don't have a magic wand, neither am I THE expert in solving problems, counselling is team work for all who take part.

However,  I am experienced in life and it's pitfalls and what I can offer is years of experience and outstanding commitment to helping people achieve the goals they come with.

Previous clients have said, that I am "warm, witty and wise" I like to think I am a caring listener to help you 'sort things out' or 'get a better handle' on things .

I am not specifically interested in your past but want to help you be your best, most comfortable self in the present.

My approach is integrative and very flexible, meaning we will work together in a variety of different ways.

About my counselling and how it can help:

The role of the counsellor is not to 'treat' people or try to 'heal' them, but to encourage their curiosity about their own beliefs and motivations. I offer clients an invitation to step outside their life story long enough to see that the story is not complete and, of course, to appreciate that those stories can be re-written. Together we will create a space in which new possibilities will emerge.

During this period of uncertainty and escalating anxiety I am offering a full online service- with video or telephone sessions.

If you are in need of a one off or number of sessions to help with this huge transition please get in touch.

Training, qualifications & experience

My extensive counselling background includes work with a primary care community service, relationship counselling, divorce support, end of life and bereavement counselling, work stress and anxiety management drug and alcohol services and work with a world wide corporate employment assisted health and well being service.

Prior to this I worked in the field of fitness for many years and both enjoy and promote the benefits of exercise.

Life has not been without its perils and I bring both practical experience and integrity into my practise along with humanity and humour.

I regularly receive recommendations from numerous clients and GP's.

I hold a Higher Education Diploma In Person Centred Counselling.

A Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

A Diploma in Integrative Therapy.

Certificate in Brief Solution Focused Therapy.

Post Graduate Certificate in Person Centred Couples Counselling.

I am a level 2 trained EMDR practitioner and am able to treat trauma.

A Diploma in Supervision

I have also trained in Mindfulness based stress reduction as well as numerous other professional development courses.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Physiotherapists and adhere to their Framework and Ethical guidelines.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have many areas of expertise, with specialist interest in-

Relationship and couples.
Sometimes you just need a space to reconnect a place where you can resolve conflict and move on from crisis or break ups and live your life more fully in the present moment.
Anxiety
This is a difficult feeling to overcome and let go. I work with a variety of techniques as I believe anxiety is both rational and irrational, physical and emotional and needs both a directive presence and a holistic acceptance to overcome.
Alcohol
I also have a specialist interest in working with alcohol, if your life has become a series of crisis and you want to get some control back- I offer a flexible programme so that you can get support when you need it.
Eating Disorders
I have a professional approach and years of experience to help you break free of the symptoms and distress that eating disorders ensue. If you are unhappy with your weight or your eating or just how it controls your life, why not try giving me a call to discuss how I might help. My previous experience includes work with adolescents and adults.

Trauma

I am trained to offer EMDR for trauma- EMDR is a leading treatment for trauma.
