About me

Hello, I'm Joanne a fully qualified and BACP Accredited Counsellor and Supervisor with considerable experience in relationship issues, bereavement, anxiety, depression, self-development and matters effecting young people.  I work with both individuals and couples (please see my website for more details) and also offer the highly effective "Rewind" technique for trauma.

At this time I am happy to offer sessions face-to-face, on-line using Zoom or telephone.  I have a safe, supportive, and confidential space (with convenient off road parking) at my home in St Albans in which we can meet and together explore difficulties that you may be experiencing.

Occasionally we may find ourselves stuck at a crossroad or weighed down with thoughts and feelings that can become confusing and overwhelming. It may be difficult for us to share some of our struggles with our friends and family and so seeking the help of a non-judgemental, empathic counsellor can be very therapeutic and healing. Taking time out to focus on and grow an understanding of our feelings and ourselves can enable us to go forward, free from some of the pain and angst we may be carrying. Getting to know ourselves and be curious as to why we behave as we do can ultimately help us to make clearer decisions, more fulfilling relationships and enable us to move on feeling more optimistic, confident and content with our lives.

I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means I can use skills from several schools of psychotherapy. I am continually training and gaining new skills.

I recently worked for four years at Youth Talk, St Albans and have worked at Bereavement Matters (counselling adults and young people in secondary schools) and Signpost, Watford (an agency for 11 to 25 year olds).  I have volunteered as a superviser for Cruse Bereavement Support.  I have been running a busy private practice since 2014.

For counselling to be successful the relationship between us is extremely important. In order for us to meet and "get a sense of each other" I am happy to offer an initial 30 minute consultation at a reduced fee of £35.

Please email me at contact@jomarkscounselling.co.uk or phone on 07802881267. If you reach my confidential voicemail please note that I do check my phone regularly and will get back to you ASAP.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
