Joanne Everson BA (Hons) Counselling, MBACP (Accred)
Hello, I'm Jo. Welcome to my counselling page.
Sometimes, experiencing distressing events within our workplace, home or relationships can be very difficult to cope with, and may leave you feeling unhappy, confused, anxious, depressed and even stuck. This can seem overwhelming and it might seem impossible to independently move forward in life and find resolve.
Counselling can help develop ways of coping and working through these difficulties to find the answers. This support can enable a deeper understanding of why we do or feel things, increase self esteem and confidence and ultimately improve relationships.
I am an experienced therapist, and my practice offers a safe and confidential space for you to discuss what is troubling you, in a non-judgmental and respectful environment. Together, we can recognise and make sense of the problems you are experiencing and explore the choices needed to overcome these difficulties positively and confidently.
I appreciate that finding the right counsellor is important, so I offer a free 30 minute, no obligation session for individuals at my Epsom practice where we can discuss what you are looking to achieve with counselling, and discover whether you feel able and comfortable for us to work together. I offer daytime and evening appointments.
I look forward to meeting you.
EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing
This is one type of therapy I provide, designed specifically to alleviate trauma and related symptoms such as acute anxiety.
Sometimes old disturbing memories can be stored in the brain in isolation; they get locked into the nervous system with the original images, sounds, thoughts and feelings. The old distressing material just keeps getting triggered over and over again. This prevents healing from taking place. In another part of your brain, you already have most of the information you need to resolve this problem - the two just cannot connect. This is where EMDR can help new information come to mind and resolve the old problems similar to what happens spontaneously in REM or dream sleep.
My counselling practice also extends to relationship issues and difficulties within couples. I work in a non biased way, ensuring that both parties have an equal voice, in an effort to highlight and find resolution to whatever issues may be present in the relationship.
