About me

Please note that I am currently unable to take new referrals

I am a qualified, BABCP fully-accredited cognitive behavioural therapist with experience in managing a wide range of emotional and mental health problems. Having been a practising GP for over twenty years, in 2011 I decided to focus on working with emotional difficulties and mental health issues and, after gaining my post-graduate diploma at Oxford, am now happy to offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for problems including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Panic disorder and agoraphobia
  • Specific phobias
  • Stress
  • Bereavement
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Low self esteem
  • Long term health conditions
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome/ME

CBT is a talking therapy, usually relatively short term, based on an empathic, confidential and honest relationship between therapist and client. The idea behind CBT is that our thoughts and beliefs are related to how we feel emotionally and to how we behave and that we can often become stuck in unhelpful patterns that are hard to break out of.
The emphasis is on working together to understand the problem you would like help with, focusing on what is keeping the problem going now, whilst acknowledging the effect the past may have had on your current difficulties.
By using CBT we aim to develop strategies together to help understand and manage your problems, which you can then continue to use even after therapy has finished.
CBT is recommended by NICE for many mental health problems and has a strong basis in research evidence. I will always be mindful of this but will aim to understand you as an individual and that your therapy must be flexible to be meaningful and effective for you.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
