My name is Jo and I offer solution focused counselling in and around Macclesfield.
What do I mean by solution focused counselling?
I concentrate on what my clients what to achieve, or to change in their lives through therapy. My approach does not focus on the problems of the past, or their causes (but does not ignore them either); I focus on the present and the future. I work to help my clients construct a preferred future, and then assess realistic, achievable ways of working towards the future.
I am often asked about CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I do use CBT as an integrative part of my therapeutic approach. However, as with the whole range of approaches I use, I am solution focused. In other words, I always asses whether CBT is likely to be the most appropriate technique for each individual client, and each individual issue.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP Registered qualified and experienced Counsellor. My training and approach is based on the 'Integrative Model', which simply means that I will employ a variety of therapeutic approaches, according to the individuals issue.
I have 8 yeas experience as a Counsellor working within the NHS Primary Care. I have also worked in the 3rd Sector (Charities) in extremely varied ethnic/socio-economic/culturally diverse communities in urban environments.
Specialities: My particular area of therapeutic experience include: stress, anxiety, depression, bereavement, anger, loss, low self-esteem, lack of confidence, relationships, sexuality, lack of focus, direction or purpose in life, ageing and life stages, mindfulness, living an authentic life, addiction including gambling and internet addiction.
I consider myself an creative and imaginative therapist - perhaps not conforming to any particular stereotypical image. I offer a free initial telephone consultation or a half price one hour initial meeting during which I can explain more about my background, experience and therapeutic approaches and of course answer any questions that you, as a potential client, may have.
