Jo Derry Dip Couns Registered MBACP (Accred).
Hello and welcome to my profile. I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults and young people. My aim is for us to build a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship so that you can feel safe and trusting enough to explore whatever is going on for you.
Perhaps you are concerned about upsetting or worrying others in your life. Or would like to explore concerns further outside your current relationships. I will not judge what you have to say. I will actively listen and help you to make your own choices about how you move forward in your life.
Perhaps you have experienced thoughts, feelings, situations or relationship challenges which have caused inner turmoil or anxiety. These may be long-term and may have lead to negative patterns of behaviour. I know that through exploration and challenge of thoughts and feelings, self awareness can be developed, resolutions can be found, things can change.
You can trust that I will act in your best interests at all times and adhere to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework.
If you think I might be able to assist you at this time, please do get in touch. I can offer day time and evening appointments.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my counselling training in 2008 and qualified with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I place great value in the therapeutic relationship built between counsellor and client.
I have since been committed to continuing professional development through further on-going training courses and workshops, as well as learning alongside peers.
I have experience of working with adult clients who are facing a life limiting illness personally or of someone important in their lives. I also have experience of working with adult clients who are bereaved, have relationship issues, anxiety, stress-related problems, transitional problems, self-esteem and confidence issues, domestic violence and abuse.
I have worked at Signpost (young people's counselling service) Watford offering individual general counselling for a variety of issues for young people aged between 11 and 25.
I have a Diploma in Childhood Bereavement and have been been part of the Supportive Care Teams at Peace Hospice Care, Watford, and The Hospice of St Francis in Berkhamsted where I have supported both individually and in groups, children, young people and families who are bereaved or facing the life limiting illness of someone important.
