Jim Thompson Dip.Counselling & Groupwork
I am offering individual therapy and group therapy in a safe and confidential environment based in Glasgow City Centre.
I provide a non-judgemental, empathetic, honest and understanding service. My therapeutic approach is based on a CBT approach, however I do draw on other knowledge so that I can have a more client centred approach, for example motivational interviewing.
Originally from Fife I moved to Glasgow in the late 90's and I have worked in various fields of employment ranging from Mobile Phones to Banking. I have over 9 years coaching individuals in the Banking Sector.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have experience in dealing with issues such as Problematic Alcohol Use, Depression, Anxiety, Stress and Low Self-Esteem.
As well as working as a Private Practitioner I also volunteer my services within an Alcohol Misuse Agency based in Glasgow.
After 10 years in Banking I looked at a career change so I took the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills course. The course made me more self aware of my feelings, behaviours and thoughts. After completing the Course I went on to complete the SCOTACS Diploma in Counselling & Groupwork.

- Drug abuse
- Generalised anxiety disorder

- Low self-esteem

'When I first met Jim I was a bit sceptical about whether or not it would work, but after my second session I could see an improvement in my mood and behaviour. Jim has helped me through a difficult time and 7 weeks later I feel great. I would recommend Jim to anyone with stress, anger or self confidence issues' EG, Glasgow
'My sessions really helped me cope with situations that would normally have me feeling low for days. Now I'm able to rationalise much better. I generally feel happier which makes life a lot easier'
