About me

Welcome - do you want to change your life?
I offer counselling in quiet and comfortable surroundings, providing a safe and confidential space where you can share your issues and discuss your concerns. Finding a way through your experiences could involve understanding better the relationships you have with a partner, family, friends, colleagues, work, finances, health, belief systems and more. Recognising how your past and present connect and influence you helps make changes to your life possible. Discovering what challenges and undermines you and what supports and affirms you is part of the journey. The process may require courage at times, yet the benefits can be life transforming.

How I work as a counsellor
A secure relationship with your counsellor is important and key to change and a satisfactory outcome - more relevant than any specific theoretical model. Generally clients are more concerned with the end result than the models used though for your interest, I work as an integrative counsellor, including person-centred and psycho-spiritual models, and counsel each client with an open-minded approach. Depending on the challenges raised, I bring in other other theoretical models as needed, which could include: Mindfulness, Psychosynthesis, Transpersonal, Ecopsychology and Gestalt. Creative therapy is also an option through my training and interest in art. This approach can be useful as an alternative or in addition to talking therapy.

My background
My background is in the caring professions, having worked for 25 years as a Registered General Nurse until 2000 - this included 5 years working in a Chemical Dependency Unit. I have also spent time working for the Samaritans. A significant part of my time is now given to providing private therapy and during the last few years I have also been working for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire as a counsellor. I have also delivered talks for them on relevant topics to carers, those cared for and interested professionals, about understanding and managing emotions.

Some areas of expertise
I can offer counselling support across a broad number of issues and some examples include the impact of abuse; anxiety and stress; Autism, Asperger's and other ASD aspects; bereavement; confidence and self-esteem; depression; ill-health; partner and relationship issues, self-harm, sexual identity issues and spiritual crisis. I provide support for carers with the particular issues arising from those in their care.

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications relevant to counselling include:

  • Certificate in Introduction to Counselling Concepts
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Transactional Analysis 101 Verification Certificate
  • Workshop in How to Teach Understanding Substance Misuse
  • Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling

This level of training qualifies me to work with a wide variety and depth of issues and I undertake continuing professional development throughout the year.

I am a registered therapist with Sweet Track Counselling Services.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and work within their code of ethics.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Concessions offered for

  • Keyworkers
  • Students
  • Trainee counsellors

Additional information

The fee per session is £40 for an individual for 50 minutes and £55 for a couple for 75 minutes. You can choose to make payment either by cash or electronic bank transfer.

There are reduced rates for key workers, students and student counsellors.

As it is important for you to feel you are making the best choice of counsellor I offer a free 30 minute introductory session. This presents the opportunity to get a sense of whether we might work together - a good working relationship is needed for counselling to be effective.

When I work

My hours are Monday - Thursday 09:00 - 21:00 Friday 09:00 - 17:00

Further information

Most of my work is face to face though Skype, WhatsApp, FaceTime and 'phone sessions are an option if needed at times. Sessions would usually be a weekly event. The number of sessions is determined between us as the work unfolds. Short term therapy is beneficial for some while others find coming for longer works better for them.

I have also been a tutor, training students on CPCAB (Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) accredited courses in Glastonbury. These carry nationally recognised qualifications which are transferable.
