About me

I have been practising as a psychotherapist and counsellor since 1999 and I work with clients who are struggling with all kinds of emotional difficulties and life issues.

As people come to therapy with many different problems, it is difficult to sum up what I have worked with by providing an enormous list of issues.  However, I have expertise and experience in many different areas, including addiction (drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, eating problems), anxiety, bereavement, depression, existential crisis, mental health problems, relationships, sexual issues, stress, work-related issues, but this is not an exhaustive list.

I also have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Attachment-Based Therapy so, if the client wants to, I will explore their family of origin and how this has impacted on the way they relate in the world.  This may well be the cause of many of the above problems, so understanding early years issues, and learning to live in a different way, can be life-changing.

Finding a therapist can be very confusing as there are so many people available, all of whom appear to be offering the same thing.  Therefore, it is important to have an initial session with someone to make sure you feel comfortable with them and they are the right person for you.  This relationship will be key to being able to explore whatever issues you are dealing with.

One of the biggest fears for a client can be the idea that you will be seeing someone for a very long time.  This will be a very individual decision.  I am qualified in both short-term and long-term work and I will work with the client to decide what is best for them.  I also do regular reviews with the client.

I offer individual therapy in Kingston-Upon-Thames (North Kingston) and addiction therapy in Kingston and Wimpole Street in Central London.   If you would like to book an initial session with me, simply call on 07810 884534 or email me at jrdtherapy@gmail.com

Training, qualifications & experience

The first half of my working life was spent in television and video production.  I changed directions in 1996 to pursue a career in the caring professions, both as a senior manager and counsellor/psychotherapist, working for the NHS, The Priory, RAPt (Rehabilitation of Addicted Prisoners), GamCare and The Seventy4 Foundation (previously known as The Drug and Alcohol Foundation).

I have been practising for over 20 years as a psychotherapist. I have a Masters in Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Attachment-Based Therapy. I am a qualified supervisor (CSTD) and can offer supervision for both qualified therapists and people in training. I also have a Masters in Business Administration, so frequently work with clients who are struggling with work-related issues.

I offer a range of clinical approaches, including Existential. Attachment-Based and CBT techniques, depending upon your particular issues and personality.  I will decide with you the best approach for your individual needs after an assessment.  You may want short or longer-term therapy, so it is important for us to work this out together and review it as we go along.

I am registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and a member of the British Association of Psychotherapy and Counselling (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics.

I am a BUPA, PruHealth, Aviva UK, Western Provident Association and Cigna registered counsellor.
