Jethro Adlington. Accredited Psychotherapist UKCP
I have over 25 years experience as an Accredited Counsellor/Therapist.
I provide both short term and long term counselling/therapy for adults. My training has been in many different areas. This allows me a greater degree of flexibility in the way I work. Each client is a "blank canvas" and I can tailor the way I work according to the person I am working with.
How I work :
I never see more than 3 appointments in any one day.
Before the session: As I only see a maximum of three people in a day, this means that before the session, I can spend time preparing, reading over previous notes and exploring ways we can maximise our future sessions.
During the session :I like to think that I have a flexible approach with each individual that I work with. As I have worked with many people with so many different issues, and have had a wide range of training over many years, I feel I have developed a varied way of working that tends to be focused on working towards solutions, rather than dwelling on problems.
After the session, I may send an email to you. ( If you agree). This will outline the work we have done in the session as well as any agreed work that you may do in between sessions.
I have a significant range of experience, working with many issues. I have also listed some areas where I specialise. These areas are not exclusive. For a full overview of the issues I work with, see the bottom of the page.
I have worked successfully with anxious individuals for many years as well as running workshops specifically for people with anxiety. I tend to work in a "cognitive" way, allowing individuals to become more aware about how their thinking affects their anxiety. Using this as a starting point, we can then explore how they can change their feelings and behaviour.
I believe I have been able to construct an approach to anger management that is both simple to learn and easy to put into practice. Many of my clients have given me positive feedback on how this method has had a positive impact on the way they think and behave.
Obsessions and Compulsions ( OCD ).
If you feel "trapped" by the need to carry out repetitive checking, washing, ordering, list making etc, then you may want to work on taking charge of these compulsions. I have put together a planned method for working with obsessive compulsions. This method, with time and practice, can allow you to work towards managing your obsessions and compulsions.
Often, relationship problems can be linked to how people communicate with each other . Being able to really "hear" the other person, as well as learning how to express yourself when you are "not ok", can be the start of improving your relationship. Trust issues and jealousy can also be improved by improving communication in the relationship.
Most students have access to free support when they are in education. However,if you feel that you need support, but cannot wait, then I offer a reduced rate of £20.00 for students. It may not be necessary for you to attend every week, so if you attended fortnightly, ( for example), that would reduce your outgoing to £10.00 per week, which for many people, is affordable.
I have worked in Further Education and Higher Education for over 20 years and have a good understanding of the sort of issues that can affect students.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am Accredited Psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
I have trained in the following areas:
Cognitive behavioral therapy ( CBT)
Solution focused therapy ( SFT)
Neuro linguistic programming (NLP)
Transactional Analysis ( TA )
My training has been considerable and varied and this allows me to integrate the skills I have learned so that my clients can be supported in the best way for them.
I also have significant training in hypnosis and have experience in working with people that have post traumatic stress or have been abused as children.
The use of "Clean Language" is a very specialised way of working that can allow me to work with the client, without the client having to divulge "what happened".
