Life can sometimes be upsetting, confusing or disappointing, leaving you feeling distressed, angry or overwhelmed. It is not always easy to share with others especially if there is a fear of being judged or looking vulnerable. Counselling can offer a refuge to express your innermost worries and aims to help you deal with and overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making you feel uncomfortable. I can provide the space and time to talk and explore difficult feelings. Our work together will empower you to discover insights into understanding problems and help you to make positive changes.
I work with an "integrative" system; drawing techniques from various theories so that you get a personal approach. I believe in holistic therapy; that the physical self is closely linked to our psychological self and that problems in one area often manifest in the other. With this in mind, it can be useful to look at factors such as bodily pain, difficulties sleeping or diet.
On first meeting, I will ask you a few questions to get to know you a little and what you hope to achieve through therapy. The counselling room is a safe place where confidentiality and trust are paramount.
Over time we will explore your thoughts and feelings together, perhaps working towards understanding a difficult situation or perhaps making a positive change to move forwards.
Depending on your preference, therapy can be flexible, or more directed. Long-term or short-term counselling is available for whatever works best for you. You may benefit from looking back at past events or you might prefer to make a goal orientated plan for the future.
I am based on the High Street in Stevenage Old Town. (Opposite Costa Coffee.) There is free on-street parking available and buses a short walk away.
