About me

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and taking those important, if daunting first steps towards starting counselling.

I am a person-centred trained counsellor with nearly 20 years experience of working therapeutically with adults, young people and children. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Diploma in Clinical Supervision.I have also undertaken other extensive professional development training and hold an 80 hour Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling.

I have worked in a variety of therapeutic settings and with a diverse range of issues. These include, but are not limited to, anxiety, stress, depression, loss and bereavement, attachment issues, relationship problems, low self esteem, family separation, disability, anger, identity, transitions and self harm. In my private practice, I offer individual counselling to adults over 18, on a long or short term basis.

Understanding the person-centred approach:

"The counsellor or psychotherapist in this approach works to understand an individuals existence from their point of view. The Counsellor must positively value the client as a person in all aspects of their humanity, while aiming to be open and genuine. This is vital to helping an individual feel accepted and better understand their own feelings and sense of self worth. This re-connection with their inner resources enables them to find their own way to move forward."

I believe that my empathetic and non-judgemental approach facilitates the relationship between myself and my clients. The quality of the relationship provides a catalyst for the client's personal growth and improved emotional well being. I am here to listen and will offer you respect, unconditional positive regard and a secure frame from which to explore your issues.

Please get in touch via the directory to arrange an initial meeting or conversation and explore how I may help you further. I aim to answer all enquiries within 24 hours.

Counselling is available in person or can be offered online. My fee per session is £50.00. Concessions can be offered to students, trainee counsellor's and those who are unwaged.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
