About me

My name is Jenny Brown and I am a (BACP) British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Accredited Counsellor & Intuitive Psychotherapist working in Droitwich- I am within easy access to Junction 5 of the M5 and Bromsgrove.

Thank you for reading my profile and I hope it will help you to embark on your counselling journey. I am a warm, perceptive, and compassionate therapist with a passion for helping clients to heal and move forward in their lives.

I provide a confidential and therapeutic space whereby you can talk and make sense of whatever is causing you distress. I use my natural intuition, advanced empathy, and clear insight to help you to understand what could be holding you back in life.

As a committed and experienced therapist; I work with an integrative approach, that considers all aspects of the individual. These aspects include emotional, psychological, behavioural, and physical.

Therapy can help in coming to terms with problems you are experiencing, finding peace within, and overcoming difficulties that may seem impossible to conquer. It can be transformative to be heard, accepted, and understood without the fear of being judged, or misunderstood. I view therapy as a powerful journey that can lead to a greater understanding of ourselves, recovering from an array of issues- past and present. Thus, enabling perspective, well-being, and peace of mind.

By being able to talk in a safe and confidential setting, you will be able to talk about issues and difficulties as short or long term as you require. You do not need to be in a crisis to benefit from therapy, it can be extremely useful for personal development, self-awareness, and complete realisation of one's potential, and the full development of one's abilities and appreciation for life.

Therapy can be truly life changing in the right therapeutic relationship. This can allow exceptional depth- when a person feels wholly and completely accepted by another human being. I am ardent about developing a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients, and have witnessed remarkable changes due to the importance of this crucial factor in the healing process.

My clients find that therapy offers them, for the first time, the experience of talking about issues that they never expected to be able to discuss. Therapy enables you to be heard and accepted unconditionally without the risk of being judged or criticised. This ultimately allows healing and change to take place- therefore, issues can be worked through and resolved.

I see it as a huge privilege to help people in this way and am always touched by the courage clients show when they enter therapy. I am genuinely inspired by the resilience and power of the human spirit.

I welcome informal enquiries via email or phone (please check your junk mail, if you haven't had a response from me within 48 hours).

What I can help with

I offer private counselling for people experiencing a wide variety of issues, including:-

Bereavement, Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Panic Attacks, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Addiction, Anger problems, Abuse, Relationship and family issues, Work-related problems, LGBTQ+, Chronic Pain, Childhood issues, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)/ Trauma, Self-Esteem issues, Life- changing events and decisions, Isolation/ loneliness, Eating disorders.

Loss & Grief (Life-changing events)

I am a specialist in loss and grief- which will often link with other issues such as Anxiety and Depression. Grief is a natural response to loss. It is the emotional suffering you feel when something or someone you love is taken away. Most people associate grief with the death of a loved one, but any loss can cause grief- including:-

A relationship breakup, death/ loss of a pet, loss of health, losing a job/ home, loss of financial stability, miscarriage, infertility, a loved one’s illness, loss of friendship, loss of safety after a trauma.

I also have a particular interest in/ other areas I work with:-

Spirituality, spiritual emergence/ spiritual crisis, spiritual guidance, anomalous experiences, extraordinary experiences in bereavement, near-death experiences, and dream symbolism.

How I work

As your therapist, I will offer you a calm, reflective atmosphere in which to find clarity, make changes in your life, heal, and grow. I am present in a genuine, compassionate, and non-judgemental way, and I may challenge you appropriately at times.

I have an innate, empathic awareness of where clients are in their world and instinctively know how to facilitate healing, growth, and change. I do this whilst respecting your free will, creativity, and potential. I emphasize looking at the person as a whole, a unique being- with their frame of reference within their environment.

I utilise my natural intuition and awareness to help in working with the whole of a person on various levels- including mind, body, and soul- all of which are needed for an optimal healthy and harmonious life. I am committed to being responsive to the needs of individual clients, and tailor my work to your needs, also recognising that these needs may change over time.

My modality of working is Person-Centred integrative therapy whereby my clients are the most important part of therapy and developing trust and frame of reference- being open to all parts of the individual, is key. I integrate approaches from a number of sources to find tailored solutions that fit the particular needs of the person who comes to me for help, support, and healing.

These sources include:- Psychodynamic, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Gestalt and TA (Transactional Analysis).

The integrative approach that I work to, refers to the infusion of a person's personality and needs- integrating the affective, behavioral, cognitive, and physiological systems within one person, as well as addressing social and spiritual aspects.

I integrate a psychodynamic perspective as events in our childhood and the relationships we have with significant people, influences us as an adult. CBT is used to look at how thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions. TA and Gestalt provide further structure as these two approaches are illuminated by the fact that both adopt a ‘here and now’ awareness, which is fundamental in personal healing and growth.

I am also IFS (Internal Family Systems) informed which is an innovative, evidence-based model. It is an insightful and gentle way to understand inner conflict, get to the root of challenging behaviours, and make positive changes. The idea in IFS, is that we all have an undamaged core at the centre of our self, which is resourceful and knows how to heal and live a fulfilling life. It has been referred to as the "I" of the storm.  Once clients access their core Self, different parts of them can let go of burdens, pain, and trauma.

I also offer creative forms of therapy, whereby clients are invited to share, explore, and think about their thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a non-conventional way . This process of self-exploration can often yield surprising results, or uncover to us some feelings or thoughts we once thought we had forgotten, or in fact- thoughts or feelings we did not know we had. (You do not need to be 'artistic' or 'creative' to benefit from this).

By integrating these approaches described, therapy is tailored to my clients and not my clients to the therapy. This allows me to be flexible and responsive to the individual need of each client I work with.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Registered Accredited Member (MBACP) of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. This closely correlates with my personal code of ethics.

I receive regular on-going professional, clinical supervision to assure you that I am an ethical practitioner and to aid in providing best practice and positive outcomes.

I undertake regular workshops and Continued Professional Development courses, not only for continued learning but to continue in developing myself as a person. I am also a Qualified Reiki Master, whilst I do not perform Reiki on my clients, holding the intention of healing and compassion for my clients is paramount. I use meditation in some areas of my work, which can be helpful in calming the mind and for relaxation purposes. I can explain how to meditate and it can work extremely well in the counselling/ healing process.

I began my counselling career in 2010. Initially, I worked with pre and post bereaved clients in a hospice setting- I also provided counselling for clients facing a life limiting illness. I have worked in a GP surgery supporting clients with complex issues including Self harm, OCDs, and Gender identity problems.

I later worked at a FE College counselling students facing difficulties and pressure along with running workshops on Anxiety, Depression and Self-Esteem. I have worked for a local bereavement service whereby I helped clients following the loss of a loved one, who had died in traumatic circumstances such as suicide and other sudden deaths.

I have extensive experience of working with a wide range of clients in my own private practice (including EAP referrals) and have facilitated groups which focus on self-development and personal growth. I have also run a paranormal team, which helped people to learn more about the paranormal and understanding experiences that they could not explain.

I regularly attend and undertake courses at a college which offers study and training unequalled anywhere in the world within the spiritual movement. Here, I study philosophy, healing and awareness, spiritual and esoteric unfolding. I also participate in numerous online courses studying therapeutic shamanism. This learning combines the principles of spiritual growth and healing, along with counselling and psychotherapy. It provides a toolkit of techniques and methods that are highly useful for emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing. Through my ongoing spiritual training and development used collaboratively with my conventional counselling and psychotherapy training, I provide my service with additional competency, effectiveness, and skill- resulting in increased proficiency, for a transformational approach in my client work.

I am dedicated to my own personal growth and self-care. I believe it is important to remember that personal growth and self-care is a continuous process throughout life. I therefore have personal therapy myself, which I find incredibly helpful and beneficial to me and my work.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
